Chicago Fire Season 13: Why Severide’s Absence Puts Stella Kidd in a Tight Spot

Season 13 of Chicago Fire has been a rollercoaster for fans of Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo). Even though she’s been around, her role in the main plots has been pretty limited. One of the few standout moments was her decision to fire Jack Damon (Michael Bradway), but even then, the emotional spotlight was on Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney) and his complicated family ties with Damon. Kidd, while technically important, was pushed to the sidelines.

Stella Kidd has always been a rock-solid character in the Chicago Fire lineup, providing a stable base for more volatile characters to shine. However, in recent episodes, she’s lost the spark that made her unique. Her charisma, attitude, and vulnerabilities have been flattened, as most of her stories are directly tied to Severide, who’s been MIA in several episodes.

The dynamic between Kidd and Severide is crucial for the show, and their chemistry remains strong. But when a character who’s always around depends on another who’s frequently absent, it spells trouble. The series played with fire when Kidd got close to Sam Carver (Jake Lockett) in season 11, but at least there was a clear and distinct narrative arc for her.

Kidd isn’t a ruined character, but she’s been neglected and underutilized in recent episodes. The lack of independent development has made her character too reliant on Severide’s storylines. This not only limits her growth but also affects the show’s narrative diversity.

Season 13 of Chicago Fire has made Stella Kidd lose her essence

We hope that the second half of season 13, currently airing on NBC, gives Kidd the chance to shine on her own. The writers have the opportunity to explore new stories that highlight her strengths and allow her to evolve beyond her relationship with Severide. This would not only benefit Kidd but also enrich the overall narrative of Chicago Fire.

Severide’s absence has left a void that Kidd hasn’t been able to completely fill. However, with a renewed focus on her development, Kidd could regain her essence and become a fundamental pillar in the series once again. Fans are eager to see a stronger and more independent Stella Kidd in the upcoming episodes. Hopefully, Chicago Fire will seize this opportunity to give Kidd the spotlight she deserves and let her grow beyond Severide’s shadow.
