Among all the possible future NCIS directors, one name continues to spark excitement: Tony DiNozzo.
While Timothy McGee is widely viewed as the logical successor to Leon Vance, Tony represents something different—a return to the early spirit of the original series. As one of Gibbs’ earliest team members, Tony helped define the tone of NCIS with humor, loyalty, and emotional depth.
Elsewhere in the franchise, Hetty Lange remains a powerhouse leadership candidate, and G. Callen’s experience makes him another realistic contender. Jane Tennant and Hannah Khoury also demonstrated strong command abilities during their time leading field teams.
Even Kate Whistler’s FBI background shows how interagency experience can prepare someone for a larger leadership role.
Still, Tony stepping into the director’s chair would feel like a full-circle moment—especially for longtime viewers who followed him from the very beginning.
