Who is leaving the show?
Tonight’s finale serves as the final episode for Kevin McKidd and Kim Raver as series regulars.
McKidd joined the show during Season 5 as Dr. Owen Hunt, while Raver began appearing in Season 6 as Dr. Teddy Altman before later returning as a regular cast member. Their characters have shared one of the show’s longest-running relationships.
What to expect from the finale
The finale centers on a catastrophic bridge collapse near Seattle that sends a wave of critically injured patients to Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital.
The previous episode ended with Teddy listening to a voicemail from Owen while he was on the bridge moments before disaster struck. Promotional footage for the finale shows Owen trapped unconscious inside a vehicle filling with water.
Meanwhile, Nick Marsh — played by Scott Speedman — is also rushed to the hospital in serious condition following the collapse.
The emergency brings Meredith Grey back into the center of the action, with Ellen Pompeo appearing prominently in the finale after limited appearances throughout much of season 22.
ABC’s synopsis for “Bridge Over Troubled Water” states that Grey Sloan activates its full disaster-response protocol as doctors race to treat dozens of victims from the collapse.
