NCIS fans won’t have to wait long to see the return of one of Season 23’s most surprising new characters. Patrick Keleher is set to reprise his role as Mateo, the teenage son McGee only recently discovered he had, before the season finale airs.
Mateo’s storyline first surfaced in Episode 12, when McGee learned his former girlfriend Olivia kept the pregnancy secret years earlier. While the revelation promised emotional fallout, the plot temporarily took a back seat after the shocking death of Director Leon Vance shifted the show’s focus.
Now the series is circling back. McGee recently admitted he’s struggling to connect with Mateo, setting the stage for their next on-screen meeting.
Although an exact return date hasn’t been confirmed, Mateo is expected to appear in one of the remaining Season 23 episodes—offering fans a chance to see the father-son relationship finally begin to take shape.
