In episode 20 of season 13 of Chicago P.D., titled “The Lost Years,” Imani becomes the center of the story as she continues the desperate search for her missing sister, Shari. The episode opens with a montage showing Imani and Voight spending several days chasing leads across the city, determined to finally uncover what happened to Shari after years of disappearance.
Their investigation takes a dark turn when a new lead brings them to an apartment where they discover the body of a murdered young woman named Laura. Near the body, Imani finds a phone displaying a photo of Laura standing beside a woman she immediately recognizes as Shari. DNA evidence later confirms that the woman in the picture is indeed her sister, giving Imani hope that Shari is still alive.

The Intelligence Unit begins investigating Laura’s connections and traces GPS data from her phone to a suspicious apartment complex linked to prostitution activity. Inside the building, they find blood evidence proving it was the actual murder scene. Outside the complex, Imani notices a man attempting to flee. She chases him down and arrests him after jumping into his car, injuring her leg in the process. During questioning, the man reveals that Laura and Shari were working under the aliases “Lila” and “Sable” and were connected to a pimp who controlled them.
The team tracks activity from a burner phone to a known trap house. Imani convinces Voight to let her go undercover inside with Torres. There, they find a woman who once worked with Laura and Shari. At the station, the woman explains that Shari’s husband, Kirby, ran the prostitution operation and regularly abused her. She also reveals that Laura and Shari had recently started robbing clients for money.
As Ruzek investigates Kirby’s background, Imani and Voight visit a strip club where Shari used to work. A bartender tells them Kirby often forced Shari into prostitution in the parking lot before she suddenly disappeared. Searching Shari’s old locker, they uncover a card connected to one of her aliases and a possible address.
When the team searches the location, they discover stacks of fake IDs and passports. The evidence reveals a horrifying truth: Kirby kidnapped Shari as a child and pretended to be her father for years. As she got older, he changed their identities and began posing as her husband instead, keeping her trapped and isolated under false identities her entire life.
Torres later connects one of the fake identities to an older case and helps locate a man involved in creating forged documents. During the confrontation, Imani hears a voice inside the house and rushes in, spotting Kirby. He escapes by car, and Imani pursues him while Torres searches the house. Although Kirby manages to get away, Torres finds Shari hidden inside and safely brings her back to the district.
The episode ends with an emotional and heartbreaking reunion. After years of searching, Imani finally comes face-to-face with her sister. However, instead of recognizing her, Shari looks at Imani with confusion and has no idea who she is, creating a shocking cliffhanger before the season finale.
