“Accused of Evading Millions in Taxes”: Gordon Ramsay Breaks Silence on Major Tax Scandal

Gordon Ramsay has finally broken his silence after explosive allegations surfaced claiming that his restaurant empire may have evaded millions of pounds in taxes through complex offshore structures and aggressive tax avoidance schemes.

In a fiery and no-holds-barred interview, the 59-year-old celebrity chef vehemently denied all accusations, calling them “complete and utter bullshit” and “a disgusting witch hunt.”

“This is absolute nonsense,” Ramsay said bluntly. “I pay every single penny I owe — and more. I’ve been audited more times than I’ve cooked hot dinners. Anyone claiming I’m evading taxes is either lying or doesn’t understand the difference between smart legal tax planning and illegal evasion.”

The scandal erupted in early 2026 when leaked documents allegedly showed that companies within the Ramsay Restaurant Group used offshore entities, intricate financial structures, and internal transactions to significantly reduce their tax liabilities in the UK and overseas. The amount reportedly “avoided” is estimated to run into tens of millions of pounds.

This is not the first time Ramsay has faced tax-related controversy. In 2009, his Plane Food restaurant at Heathrow Airport was investigated by HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) for unpaid taxes, though that case was eventually settled. The current allegations, however, are far larger in scale and more damaging to his public image.

Ramsay insisted that all his companies’ accounts are fully audited and compliant with the law. He emphasized that his businesses employ hundreds of staff, pay VAT, corporation tax, income tax, and National Insurance contributions.

“I’m not hiding in any tax haven,” he said. “I’m right here running restaurants, paying British workers, and training the next generation of chefs. I’ve paid more tax in my lifetime than most people will ever earn.”

Critics argue that while such aggressive tax avoidance may be legal, it raises serious moral questions — especially since Ramsay has frequently complained about rising business rates and government tax policies hurting the hospitality industry.

The controversy comes at a difficult time for UK restaurants, with soaring energy costs, inflation, and new tax measures putting enormous pressure on operators.

As of now, HM Revenue & Customs has not filed any formal charges, and the Ramsay Group maintains that all financial affairs are fully compliant and properly declared.

Ramsay ended the interview in his signature blunt style: “If anyone has real evidence of wrongdoing, show it. Otherwise, stop the bullshit and let us get on with running our kitchens. I built this empire from nothing through hard work — not by cheating the system.”

The tax evasion allegations against Gordon Ramsay have sparked intense debate online, with fans divided between those defending the straight-talking chef and those demanding full transparency and independent audits.

Whether the claims will lead to formal action remains to be seen, but one thing is clear: when Gordon Ramsay feels under attack, he doesn’t stay quiet — he fights back with fire.
