The long-awaited One Chicago crossover is finally approaching—a monumental event that has been six years in the making. The last three-show crossover aired in 2019, tackling a deadly virus storyline, just before the real-life pandemic reshaped television schedules. Now, the One Chicago universe is set to deliver another thrilling, interconnected storyline that spans three hours and features surprising scheduling changes.
For the upcoming crossover airing Wednesday, January 29, the order of events will be flipped. Instead of starting with Chicago Med, the night will kick off with Chicago Fire, followed by Med, and concluding with Chicago PD.
Joe Minoso’s Playful Banter About Steven Weber
Joe Minoso, who plays firefighter Joe Cruz on Chicago Fire, is a seasoned veteran of One Chicago crossover events. Having had the opportunity to collaborate with nearly every major player in the franchise, Minoso recently reflected on his experiences during a chat with Screen Rant.
When asked about working with Chicago Med standout Steven Weber, Minoso jokingly recounted his time on set with the actor during the 2019 crossover.
“I was so excited to work with Steven Weber, and then I did, and it was a real disappointment,” Minoso teased. “He was just really, really hard to work with.”
Before the comment could be taken seriously, Minoso quickly clarified:
“That’s a joke. Please don’t take that seriously. [Laughs]”
Minoso went on to share that, aside from a few newer cast members on Chicago Med, he has had the pleasure of working with nearly everyone across the three shows, creating a unique bond with his One Chicago family.
Excitement for the Upcoming Crossover
Despite having been part of numerous crossovers, Minoso emphasized that the excitement of collaborating on a shared storyline remains as strong as ever. “The fact that we can talk about being in a universe that has three shows that interact with each other,” he said, “and has been going on for over a decade seems like a miracle. And so just to be in that hemisphere is incredible.”
He’s not wrong. The interconnected One Chicago universe has become a defining feature of NBC’s programming, with Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, and Chicago PD consistently ranking as fan favorites. Both Fire and Med have enjoyed strong ratings during the first half of their current seasons, suggesting that the franchise will continue to thrive—and deliver more crossovers—for years to come.
What to Expect from the Crossover
While details about the storyline remain under wraps, the hype surrounding the event hints at a high-stakes, emotionally charged narrative. Each crossover in the One Chicago universe has raised the bar in terms of drama, character interactions, and seamless integration across the three shows. Fans can look forward to their favorite characters stepping out of their usual environments and joining forces to tackle a common challenge.
As Minoso takes the lead in Chicago Fire to kick off the crossover, it’s clear that the One Chicago team is as enthusiastic about these events as the fans who eagerly tune in.
