9-1-1 Co-Creator Previews Big Confessions from Buck, Eddie, and Tommy

9-1-1 Co-Creator Previews Big Confessions from Buck, Eddie, and Tommy
9-1-1 co-creator Tim Minear previews big confessions from Eddie, Buck, and Tommy, along with a confession from Maddie, in a notable episode. After a one-week hiatus, 9-1-1 season 8 is back with an episode titled “The Confession.” It’s known that the episode will see Eddie Diaz (Ryan Guzman) deal with missing his son Christopher (Gavin McHugh). But there are also developments for the rest of the ABC drama.

In a commentary for Entertainment Weekly, co-creator and showrunner Tim Minear talked about “The Confession,” which airs tonight at 8 p.m. ET on ABC. Minear, who created the series with Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk, shared that Eddie finds himself in a real confession room. And while Maddie (Jennifer Love Hewitt) only has a relatively small confession, the showrunners tease a big moment for Buck (Oliver Stark) and Tommy (Lou Ferrigno Jr.): In the cases and personal stories, there are a lot of confessions to be made. [Eddie] is actually in a confession room, confession. Then Maddie has a little confession to make, too.

The episode will explore Eddie’s emotional pain over the rift with his young son. In a wild storyline, even by 9-1-1 standards, Eddie develops feelings for a woman who looks exactly like his ex-wife and Christopher’s deceased mother. Christopher is understandably upset by this. He moves in with his grandparents in Texas at the end of 9-1-1 season 7, something Eddie is understandably struggling with.

As for Maddie and her husband Howard (Kenneth Choi), tonight’s episode will see them discuss how their daughter Jee-Yun was affected after Mara (Askyler Bell) moved back in with Hen (Aisha Hinds) and Karen (Tracie Thomas). Mara has been living with Maddie and Howard for months while Karen and Hen battled for custody.

Confessions,” written by Andrew Meyers and directed by Chad Lowe, will also be a big episode for Buck and Tommy, but it’s unclear how. After being behind the scenes for most of 9-1-1 season 8, they returned to the front lines for this season’s Halloween episode and are looking for some solid ground. The sequel will explore that in more depth, which Stark confirmed in an interview with Screen Rant about whether “Confessions” will be a big episode for the pair. In any case, with 9-1-1’s season 9 renewal yet to be confirmed, there’s a lot to look forward to for the entire cast of the first responder series after the early episodes focused more on Athena (Angela Bassett) and Bobby (Peter Krause).
