Netflix’s comforting fan-favorite Virgin River is gearing up for another emotional season. Alexandra Breckenridge recently revealed that filming for season 8 has officially begun by posting a playful set photo with Martin Henderson, instantly exciting the show’s loyal audience.
The new season is expected to dive deeper into Mel and Jack’s relationship as they face one of the biggest challenges of their lives: caring for a newborn with serious medical complications. Season 7 ended with their baby son being rushed to intensive care after doctors discovered a heart condition shortly after birth.
Breckenridge hinted that motherhood may be harder for Mel than she expected, despite the joy of finally having the family she dreamed of. Meanwhile, showrunner Patrick Sean Smith explained that the season will explore the strain that fear and responsibility can place on even the strongest relationships.
