A new addition to the cast of Chicago Fire for its upcoming fourteenth season has been revealed. It comes after the actor recently starred in another TV show from Dick Wolf which was canceled after a single season.
Per Variety, Brandon Larracuente has boarded the cast of Chicago Fire for Season 14. The casting is significant as this will be a new series regular. Larracuente’s casting follows the exits of Daniel Kyri (Ritter) and Jake Lockett (Sam Carver), as both are not expected to return for Season 14. Character details were not revealed for Larracuente’s role, and it remains unknown how Kyri and Lockett will be written out.
Larracuente was one of the stars of Prime Video’s On Call, a cop drama executive produced by Dick Wolf. The show will not return for Season 2. Larracuente is also known for roles including The Good Doctor, Party of Five, 13 Reasons Why, and Bloodline.
The Season 13 finale of Chicago Fire took an unexpected turn when Christopher Herrmann (David Eigenberg) stepped down so Mouch (Christian Stolte) could become lieutenant. Making the new season more anticipated after the finale is how showrunner Andrew Newman has teased that’s when the “s**t really hits the fans.”
“There’s nobody safe in this shakeup. So next season is going to be about how the s**t really hits the fans once that mandate comes down and how things get shaken up and how our team can hold together as a family while all this craziness is happening around them,” Newman told TV Insider. “It’s going to be a lot about how the change affects everyone, not just from the top, but going down below, too.”
Newman added, “And one thing we learned when we brought in Pascal [Dermot Mulroney] that was really fun is it’s not just about getting to know this new character, it’s that a new character brings out new sides to the characters we’ve had for a long time and you see different parts of them and get to know them better. So yeah, next season’s going to be all about shakeups and how everybody reacts and new people and comings and goings.”
Chicago Fire Gets a Reduced Budget
One issue that fans have been a bit concerned about is the news that the new season will have a smaller budget. The show was renewed along with the other One Chicago shows (Chicago Med and Chicago P.D.), but securing the renewals also reported that budget cuts had to be accepted. Reports have also suggested that the shows will have shorter episode counts overall.Canceled Dick Wolf Series Star Joins Chicago Fire as New Series Regular for Season 14
