Fans of the dynamic duo Nathan Fillion and Alan Tudyk have reason to get excited! Tudyk, known for his role as Hoban “Wash” Washburne alongside Fillion’s Captain Mal Reynolds in the beloved series Firefly, recently discussed the possibility of reprising his guest role on Fillion’s current hit show, The Rookie.
As reported by Screen Rant, Alan Tudyk—who played the eccentric cleaner Ellroy Basso on The Rookie—is open to returning. At a Resident Alien Season 4 event, he said,
“If they come up with an idea, I’ll be there.”
Making it clear he’d gladly team up with Nathan Fillion again.
Fans still love the bond between Alan Tudyk and Nathan Fillion, a friendship that goes back to their Firefly days and its follow-up, Serenity. Their on-screen chemistry has popped up in several projects since, including The Rookie. And soon, they’ll share credits again—this time in the new Superman film, with Fillion playing Green Lantern and Tudyk voicing one of the Fortress of Solitude’s robots.
Alan Tudyk’s excitement makes it seem like Ellroy Basso’s comeback on The Rookie isn’t a matter of if, but when. Fans can’t get enough of his chemistry with Nathan Fillion, and it keeps the magic of their earlier work together alive. Some even wonder if this could open the door for other Firefly cast members to drop in—maybe even Gina Torres, a possibility the show’s creator, Alexi Hawley, has hinted at before.
For now, the thought of more Fillion–Tudyk magic on The Rookie is certainly enough to keep fans eagerly anticipating future episodes!
