Yuriy Sardarov, best known for his portrayal of fan-favorite Brian “Otis” Zvonecek on Chicago Fire, is making headlines again. As he promotes his new sci-fi dark comedy Daddy, the actor has shared touching reflections on his time at Firehouse 51 and left the door open for a potential return—despite his character’s dramatic death in Season 8.
Sardarov: “I Would Do It in a Heartbeat”
In a recent interview with Screen Rant, Sardarov spoke fondly of his eight-season run on Chicago Fire and expressed his willingness to reprise his role. His character, Otis, met a heartbreaking end in the Season 8 premiere, Sacred Ground, in one of the series’ most emotional moments.
When asked if he would consider returning in a flashback or alternate storyline, Sardarov responded enthusiastically:
“Oh, yeah! Oh my God. Look, that’s my family. We got so close on that set, and I just saw a bunch of them the other week. And I would do it in a heartbeat, just because I miss everybody, and I love everybody. It was just such a pleasant set to be on.”
Fans will be thrilled to know that Sardarov maintains close ties with the cast and crew of Chicago Fire, describing the show as a special environment for everyone involved.
The Legacy of Otis Lives On
Otis remains one of the most beloved characters in Chicago Fire history. His untimely death while saving others during a fire devastated fans, leaving a legacy that continues to resonate. Though Sardarov hasn’t filmed any new episodes since his exit, his character appeared in flashbacks during Season 9, using archival footage. This hints that future appearances—whether through flashbacks or other creative means—might not be out of the question.
“Chicago Fire, man, I miss those folks. I had such a great time filming it for nearly a decade of my life,” Sardarov shared, underscoring how much the experience meant to him personally and professionally.
The Secret Behind Chicago Fire’s Success
Sardarov credits the show’s longevity and success to its strong sense of camaraderie and positive work culture.
“Everybody that comes onto that set, every actor that comes on, goes, ‘Well, the rumors I’ve heard are true. This is the greatest cast that I’ve ever worked with.’ And they continue to do that, and that’s why the show’s so successful. That’s why it goes on for so long. People want to be there.”
This culture of respect and connection among the cast and crew has been a driving force behind Chicago Fire’s enduring popularity.
What’s Next for Yuriy Sardarov?
Since leaving Chicago Fire, Sardarov has stayed active in the entertainment industry. He stars in the upcoming sci-fi dark comedy Daddy, which explores a dystopian future where the government determines who can become a parent. Set in the remote California mountains, the film follows four men navigating a retreat to prove their suitability for fatherhood.
Written and directed by Neal Kelley and Jono Sherman, Daddy has upcoming screenings in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and Gardena, California, before its release on video-on-demand (VOD) on February 25.
While Sardarov’s work on Daddy showcases his versatility, fans of Chicago Fire continue to hold out hope for another glimpse of Otis. With Sardarov’s openness to returning, it seems the door isn’t fully closed on Firehouse 51’s beloved firefighter.
