Young Sheldon fans were left disappointed at the series finale after viewers pointed out that it could have fixed a major plot hole regarding a certain fan favourite character that mysteriously disappeared from the show – Paige.
While plenty of characters of varying importance to the Cooper family made it to the funeral to pay their respects, Paige and her family were absent during the entire last episode. It was quite a surprise considering some other very random characters were there too like Dr. Linkletter and Mr. Givens.
The Coopers went through a lot with Paige’s family, and bonded over their shared experiences of having an abnormally intelligent child. In addition to being able to say goodbye to George, having Paige and her family at the funeral would’ve resolved a long awaited mystery of where she actually went.
Why wasn’t she at the funeral?
It’s pretty obvious that the show continued as Sheldon grew up and went to college, and Paige was doing her own thing. But, given that they were both genius kids, it would have made sense for their paths to cross again, and it’s disappointing that after season six, she never returned.
Why did her character disappear from the series?
She was last seen in season six, episode 16 when she and Missy ran away from home. Executive producer has explained that McKenna Grace’s work commitments were pretty off the charts and she didn’t have time to return to Young Sheldon for its final season, which makes sense, since she’s literally been in everything that’s come out in the last five years.
It was disappointing to be left with such a cliffhanger storyline, seeing that Paige was often viewed as an interesting parallel to Sheldon, and she was a very popular face. Who knows, maybe she’ll make a surprise cameo in the spinoff.
