“Young Sheldon” Star Looks Unrecognizable in Heartwarming Reunion With Former Mentor md06

Unrecognizable Iain Armitage and Wallace Shawn pose in a nostalgia-filled Young Sheldon reunion photo. While The Big Bang Theory franchise continues to thrive with Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, its parent series remains ever popular — both on syndication and streaming platforms. It’s no secret that Young Sheldon’s cancellation wasn’t due to the lack of viewership but more because of The Big Bang Theory canon.

More than a year since the emotional Young Sheldon finale, the Cooper family members that are still in Texas have slowly moved forward. Georgie is now focused on raising his family while also running his very first tire business. Mary and Missy, on the other hand, are getting by on the opposite sire of Medford. All three have reunited on-screen via Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, but Sheldon has yet to return to the small screen.

Instead, Armitage has been tackling various activities and traveling a lot. Recently, he reunited with Shawn, who played Dr. Sturgis in Young Sheldon. It’s unclear where the pair crossed paths, but in the caption, Armitage sent a shout-out to Ed Begley — Dr. Linkletter in The Big Bang Theory prequel and a frequent scene partner of him and Shawn. Check out the adorable images below:

Because Dr. Sturgis was never mentioned in The Big Bang Theory, nothing is known about what happens to him after the Young Sheldon finale. Considering his contributions to Sheldon’s academic path, effectively steering him towards specializing in Applied Physics, this is one of the biggest disappointments of the Chuck Lorre-created franchise.

While Sheldon spent a considerable amount of time with Dr. Sturgis earlier in its run, Young Sheldon failed to give them a proper farewell, as the pair didn’t get to meet again before Sheldon’s move to California to start the next era of his life in Caltech. Technically, Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage can fix this by reuniting the duo. Granted that the new show is no longer about Sheldon, it’s the only remaining avenue to rectify this mistake.

If anything, Dr. Sturgis should still be in Texas Tech. In the timeline, it has only been more or less a year since George died, so unless there’s something significant that has happened to him since Young Sheldon ended, it’s fairly easy to stage this reunion. Perhaps Sheldon has some scientific questions for his mentor when he finally comes home to Medford.

This much-clamored reunion will all boil down to Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage‘s writers’ room. The show has been trying to establish its identity separate from Young Sheldon, and rightfully so, considering the shift in focus of its storytelling. At the very least, the narrative opening is there to bring Sheldon and Dr. Sturgis together again on screen.
