Emily Osment shares an update on the Young Sheldon spinoff series focusing on Georgie and Mandy.
The end of Young Sheldon is coming up quickly, but the story will continue on with a sequel series that’s in the works. It was previously announced that a new spinoff would focus on Georgie (Montana Jordan) and Mandy (Emily Osment) as they newlyweds navigate their own new family dynamics.
Osment commented on the current status of the spinoff series in a new interview with People. She confirmed that the series still hasn’t been officially titled, but is expected to start shooting in the summer. Osment also shared her excitement about getting to see what comes next for Mandy, noting how the writers have some interesting options for where to go with the character.
“I know they’re currently writing it, and we’re supposed to start [filming] this summer. But we don’t have a title yet,” she said. “It’s hinted in the marriage episode that [Mandy] wants to go back to school, that she maybe wants to have a career, that she doesn’t want to just be a stay-at-home mom, which is how I feel. I think that’s such a tremendous thing for mothers to also be working, and I can’t wait to see what they do with that. [Mandy] was a weather girl. I don’t know if she’ll go back there, but I’m excited to see what career she takes.”
Young Sheldon Gets a Sequel Series
The untitled spinoff is a half-hour, multi-cam comedy from the same team behind The Big Bang Theory and Young Sheldon: producers Chuck Lorre, Steven Molaro, and Steve Holland. As of now, it’s unclear which other characters from Young Sheldon will appear in the spinoff. Raegan Revord has said that she wasn’t “invited” to return as Missy, though with the scripts still getting written, there may still be a chance the character, and others from Young Sheldon, will appear in the spinoff in some capacity.
“So thrilled to finally be able to celebrate this wonderful news I share with the best fake husband a girl could ask for [Montana Jordan],” Osment previously said of the spinoff when the news first broke in March. “Huge thank you to our Steves and our Chuck for putting their faith in us as well as my whole team for working tirelessly to make my everlasting multicam dreams come true. Stick around y’all, the story continues.”
