Sheldon is back in one of The Big Bang Theory‘s iconic locations in new Young Sheldon season 7 set images. With just seven episodes left before its end, things are starting to build toward the one-hour finale of Young Sheldon set to air on May 16. Filming for the project supposedly continues, but considering the timeline, it’s likely they are down to their final days of production. While CBS has been mum about what can be expected from the finale, behind-the-scenes content from Young Sheldon season 7 offers an idea of what lies in the future for Sheldon and the Coopers.
Courtesy of u/magician31 from Reddit are a couple of images from the set of Young Sheldon season 7. They show Iain Armitage as Sheldon Cooper in Caltech — the character’s post-graduate school and eventual place of employment in The Big Bang Theory. It doesn’t appear like anyone else from the cast of Young Sheldon is on location. There’s also no additional information about the episode that this specific scene will be in.
What Sheldon’s Caltech Visit Means For Young Sheldon’s Ending
Sheldon Is About To Start His The Big Bang Theory Arc
This isn’t the first time that Young Sheldon featured Caltech. Back in season 3, just before Sheldon graduated from high school and started college at East Texas Tech, Sheldon begged George to accompany him to Pasadena, so he could attend Stephen Hawking’s lecture. His persistence wore down his father, and he eventually relented. It was one of the best arcs involving Sheldon and George because the Cooper patriarch never got the chance to visit his genius son in The Big Bang Theory. Seeing Sheldon back in Caltech, potentially alone, would be emotional, especially if it takes place after George’s funeral.
Young Sheldon must pay tribute to Dr. Sturgis and his impact on the boy genius’ life. The Big Bang Theory ignored him, so this is the prequel’s last time to make amends.
What’s curious is if this Caltech visit is reserved for the finale. Unfortunately, Sheldon has been sidelined in Young Sheldon season 7, with the focus being mainly on Georgie and Mandy’s story. Although it makes sense that the CBS series is devoting time to setting up its next The Big Bang Theory expansion project, it shouldn’t be at the expense of their current show. It’s illogical for Sheldon to make the trip to California if he has yet to start his post-graduate studies. Given this, it’s more likely that this particular scene will be part of the show’s final sequences.
Back in Medford, Sheldon still has several storylines that need resolution. Firstly, Young Sheldon must pay tribute to Dr. Sturgis and his impact on the boy genius’ life. The Big Bang Theory ignored him, so this is the prequel’s last time to make amends. Secondly, Tam is confirmed to make a final appearance, but it is unclear how and when that will happen. Since he ends up ditching his and Sheldon’s plan to move to California, per the established canon, Young Sheldon also needs to wrap up his story.
