Young Sheldon Season 7 Just Fixed 1 Major Sheldon Tragedy From The Big Bang Theory

Although The Big Bang Theory’s Sheldon seemingly missed out on a major family event in the original show, Young Sheldon season 7, episode 7 proved that this wasn’t the tragedy it appeared to be. Although Sheldon’s family comprises Young Sheldon’s cast of main characters, their roles were much smaller in The Big Bang Theory. Sheldon’s mother Mary appeared quite a few times, but his siblings Missy and Georgie only put in a handful of appearances before becoming the spinoff’s lead characters. Since Young Sheldon’s season 6 finale, Missy and Georgie have enjoyed as much screen time as Sheldon himself.

This has allowed the show to explain some discrepancies and inconsistencies with the canon of its predecessor. Broadly speaking, Young Sheldon takes a relaxed approach to The Big Bang Theory’s established canon. The spinoff often contradicts claims that Sheldon made in the earlier show and Young Sheldon’s characters differ from their counterparts in The Big Bang Theory in numerous ways. Despite this, season 7 of the spinoff managed to fix a tragic plot hole that was left open after Missy’s cameo in The Big Bang Theory’s finale. In doing so, Young Sheldon improves Missy and Sheldon’s troubled relationship.

Young Sheldon Season 7 Episode 7 Explains Why Sheldon Wasn’t At Missy’s Wedding

Sheldon Thanked Missy When She Promised Not To Invite Him

Sheldon’s sister got married off-screen in The Big Bang Theory and Sheldon didn’t attend the ceremony, or at least the sitcom never mentioned him going to the event on-screen. It seems unfortunate that Sheldon missed out on attending his sister’s wedding, despite how unsentimental he can be. Sheldon and Missy shared a close bond in both Young Sheldon and The Big Bang Theory, so this revelation was a sad surprise. However, in “A Proper Wedding and Skeletons in the Closet,” Sheldon tells Missy he doesn’t attend her wedding, allowing Young Sheldon’s version of Missy to fix this oversight.

Since Sheldon never wanted to go to his sister’s wedding, it makes sense that Missy got married off-screen somewhere between her first and second appearances in The Big Bang Theory. Missy respected her brother’s wishes and, since she had always known that Sheldon could be stubborn and single-minded, it is not surprising that she never checked whether he had changed his mind about her wedding later in life. Missy and Sheldon have an understanding, despite struggling with each other, and Sheldon not attending his sister’s wedding is proof that Missy accepts her brother and doesn’t expect him to conform to convention.

How The Big Bang Theory Revealed Missy Was Married

One Season 7 Episode Saw Sheldon Visiting Her And Her Husband

In season 7, episode 11, “The Cooper Extraction,” viewers learned that Missy was already married when Sheldon visited his pregnant sister. Sheldon explained that he was helping Missy out since her husband had been in a motorcycle accident, and this throwaway line was the first confirmation that his twin sister was married. Much like Young Sheldon season 7’s villainous Mary arc set up The Big Bang Theory’s more pious, judgmental version of her character, Missy and Sheldon’s conversation in episode 7 justified Sheldon not attending his twin sister’s wedding. Thus, Young Sheldon’s final season made sense of The Big Bang Theory’s surprising revelation.
