Yerin Ha Compares Benedict to This Jane Austen Hero Ahead of ‘Bridgerton’ Season 4
Bridgerton has been renewed for a fourth season since April 2021, but sadly, fans won’t get to see the new installment until the summer of 2026. While the world waits until then, a few trailers have been released here and there, giving fans a glimpse of what’s to come for Luke Thomspon and Yerin Has’s Sophie Baek’s Benedict. With Season 4 officially in production at Netflix, TV Insider sat down with Ha to talk about the pop culture influences on the main characters’ love story, and surprisingly, the actress had something interesting to say.
Speaking at the Dune: Prophecy premiere in New York City on October 30, Ha admitted that there weren’t many direct influences on Benedict and Sophie’s romance beyond what was in Julia Quinn’s An Offer From a Gentleman, the third chapter in the Bridgerton series that inspired Season 4. However, the actress noted that when filming a particular scene in the upcoming season, she was reminded of the famous Mr. Darcy, created by iconic novelist Jane Austen.
Ha shared:
It’s funny because there’s a scene, and I actually said to Luke, You’re giving Mr. Darcy 100 percent of the feel. So I guess it’s Pride and Prejudice for me. I don’t think the showrunners think that way, but for me, I’m thinking of Pride and Prejudice.
Season 4 of Bridgerton will be the love story between Bridgerton’s second brother, Benedict, and Sophie Baek, a woman who Hell meets at his mother’s masquerade ball, but who, disguised as the Lady in Silver, will retain her status as a secret maid in the service of one of the most demanding masters. Not long ago, Ha and Thompson teased the masquerade ball as they read from the pages of A Proposal from a Gentleman, alluding to this momentous event.
As seen in the charming video, the duo take turns, with Thompson taking the lead: “The most sought-after invitation this year has to be the one to the Bridgerton masquerade ball, which will be held next Monday. Ha continues, “Indeed, one cannot take two steps without being forced to listen to some high-society matron speculate about who will be attending.” Thompson adds, “And perhaps more importantly, who will be wearing what.” Ha then turns to the man, asking, “You know what this means, don’t you?” To which he replies, “I believe it means we have to prepare for a ball.”
Bridgerton Season 4 will premiere in August 2026. Stay tuned to Collider for more updates before then, and catch up on previous seasons on Netflix.
