“Yerin Ha: Benedict Bridgerton and the Interesting Comparison with the Male Lead in Jane Austen’s Novel Ahead of Season 4 of ‘Bridgerton'”

Bridgerton has been renewed for a fourth season since April 2021, but sadly, fans won’t get to see the new instalment until the summer of 2026. While the world waits for that, a few trailers have been released here and there, giving fans a glimpse of what’s to come for Luke Thomspon’s Benedict and Yerin Ha’s Sophie Baek. With Season 4 officially in production at Netflix, TV Insider spoke to Ha about the pop culture influences on the protagonist’s love story, and surprisingly, the actress had something interesting to say.

Speaking at the Dune: Prophecy premiere in New York City on October 30, Ha admitted that there weren’t many direct influences on Benedict and Sophie’s romance beyond what was in Julia Quinn’s An Offer From a Gentleman, the third chapter in the Bridgerton series that inspired Season 4. However, the actress noted that when filming a particular scene in the upcoming season, she was reminded of the famous Mr. Darcy, created by iconic novelist Jane Austen.

Season 4 of Bridgerton will revolve around the love story between Benedict, the second eldest Bridgerton brother, and Sophie Baek, a woman he meets at his mother’s masquerade ball, but who, disguised as the Lady in Silver, will keep her status as a maid in the service of one of the most demanding masters of the upper class a secret. Not long ago, Ha and Thompson teased the masquerade ball as they read from the pages of An Offer From a Gentleman, hinting at the momentous occasion.

As seen in the charming video, the duo took turns, with Thompson taking the lead: “The most sought-after invitation this year has to be the one to the Bridgerton masquerade ball, which will be held next Monday.” Ha continued, “Indeed, one cannot take two steps without being forced to listen to some upper-class matron speculating about who will be attending.” Thompson added, “And perhaps more importantly, who will be wearing what.” Ha then turned to the gentleman, asking, “You know what this means, don’t you?” And he replied, “I believe it means we have a ball to prepare for.
