Yellowstone’s Josh Lucas gives update on season 5 return
Yellowstone star Josh Lucas has given an update on the neo-Western drama, revealing there will be around 10 episodes in the final season.
Speaking to Deadline while walking the red carpet for the premiere of Apple TV+’s Palm Royale, the actor gave an update on the show, saying he expects to return as young John Dutton for season 5, part 2.
“I did text Taylor [Sheridan, co-creator] a couple of months back and said, ‘Hey man, I’ve loved working on the show so much’. He’s like, ‘well we’ll be back’,” he told reporters.
He continued: “I think we’re going to do ten or so more episodes and wrap up the story.”
The actor went on to add that he had loved working on the show so far and the “incredible” Montana filming locations, saying: “Obviously it is… incredible to be out there on those horses and that amazing territory. I love doing that job.”
Season 5, part 2 of Yellowstone is currently set to be released on November 2024, around two years after the record-breaking premiere of season 5, part 1.
Production had been delayed due to the now-resolved WGA and SAG-AFTRA as well as reports of tension between co-creator Sheridan and the show’s leading star Kevin Costner, who plays the older John Dutton.
It is currently unclear whether or not Costner will return for the final season, with the actor set to release his own two-part movie Horizon: An American Saga later this year.
Speaking about Costner during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter in June 2023, Sheridan said the actor had been planning to step away from Yellowstone to focus on his Horizon movies.
“My last conversation with Kevin was that he had this passion project he wanted to direct,” he said.
“He and the network were arguing about when he could be done with Yellowstone. I said: ‘We can certainly work a schedule toward [his preferred exit date]’, which we did.”
Yellowstone season 5 part 2 will air on the Paramount Network in November 2024.
