Cole Hauser shared some heartbreaking news with fans on social media. On March 14, he announced that his mother has died at age 76, honoring her with a sweet tribute on Instagram.
“It is with a heavy heart that my mother. Cass Sperling Warner passed away at the age of 76. Her kindness, love, humor and amazing spirit will be missed by not only my family but the world,” he wrote alongside a photo of the two of them horseback riding. He continued: “You have touched so many. I know you will be up in the heavens sitting next to all the great humans that have passed through our earth. We will meet again. Bye for now ❤️.”

The actor, who portrays Rip Wheeler on the hit western show, had previously shared the same photo back in September 2022. “Momma, I’m so happy to have this time with you. Let’s keep riding in life. Love ya! @casswarner,” he captioned the post.

Hauser comes from a long line of filmmakers and actors. His mother was a third-generation filmmaker and the co-founder of Warner Sisters, an independent film and TV production company. Hauser’s father is Wings Hauser, an actor best known for his role in Tough Guys Don’t Dance. Additionally, his great-grandfather on his mother’s side was Harry Warner, one of the original founders of Warner Bros. studios, while his maternal grandfather was Milton Sperling, a Hollywood screenwriter and independent film producer.

Cass directed and produced the 2007 documentary The Brother’s Warner, which chronicled her family’s history in the entertainment industry. The film went on to win several awards, including the HBO Films Producer Award and an Emmy Directors’ nomination. In addition to her work as a filmmaker, Cass also founded the non-profit organization The Dream Foundation, which helps select individuals clarify their purpose and move their dreams forward into reality.
Hauser was primarily raised by Cass, who divorced from his father in 1977 when Hauser was just 2 years old. They lived in several different cities before relocating back to Santa Barbara, California. Hauser eventually followed in his family’s footsteps and pursued acting. He got his start in the 1992 film School Ties, which also starred Brendan Fraser, Matt Damon, Chris O’Donnell and Ben Affleck. He went on to appear in several well-known movies and TV shows, including Richard Linklater’s Dazed and Confused, White Oleander, 2 Fast 2 Furious and Good Will Hunting, before booking his role as Rip, Beth Dutton’s husband, on Yellowstone.

A favorite amongst fans, Hauser is currently in talks to reprise his role in the upcoming spin-off series, tentatively titled 2024, after Yellowstone ends in late 2024. The series is set to star Matthew McConaughey, whom Hauser worked with on Dazed and Confused.
