Cole Hauser teases the Yellowstone continuation series ahead of the final episodes of the main show.
Cole Hauser, known for his role as Rip Wheeler in Yellowstone, discussed the ongoing plans for a sequel series led by series creator Taylor Sheridan and Paramount, despite previous reports suggesting otherwise.
Despite reports of Kevin Costner’s departure signaling the end of Yellowstone after Season 5, talks of a sequel series have persisted. In a recent interview with County Living, Hauser emphasized his current focus on wrapping up Yellowstone satisfactorily and hinted at potential future plans involving him and the rest of the cast.
Hauser stated, “I’m so focused on finishing Yellowstone the way it needs to be finished right now — well, just the show itself. We’ll see where that leads. But I know that there’s some stuff on the horizon when it comes to Taylor’s ideas for Kelly Reilly and myself, and some of the other cast. I’m excited to see where he goes creatively with that. But right now it’s just: Let’s finish strong; let’s do the best we can.”
What Will Happen With the Sequel Series?
In early 2024 rumors surfaced about contract disputes involving Hauser and costars, Kelly Reilly (Beth Dutton) and Luke Grimes (Kayce Dutton), potentially jeopardizing the continuation of the Yellowstone story with its existing cast. Speculation extended to casting choices such as Matthew McConaughey, adding to the discussion surrounding the show’s uncertain future.
Hauser and Reilly have downplayed these rumors, emphasizing their commitment to delivering a stellar final season. Reilly dismissed the reports, urging fans not to believe everything they hear. Reilly stated, “I just care about finishing the main show with as much care and as much passion and as much love as I can muster to put into it. That’s what I care about. I’m sort of prepping for that now and that’s my tunnel vision thing that I care about most, And what goes on beyond that? There are discussions, you know. Don’t believe everything you read. It’s just nonsense. But we’re gonna, you know, let’s wait and see. I don’t have an answer right now. But we’ll see.”
Yellowstone Season 5 premiered in November 2022 and reached its midseason finale with Episode 8 in January 2023. The Hollywood Writers’ and Actors’ Strikes of 2023 significantly disrupted the original production timeline. Costner is set to depart Yellowstone after this season, although he has recently suggested that he might still have a role in the franchise in the future.
Yellowstone season 5 is set to release its final episodes in November 2024.
