‘Y: Marshals’ Trailer Drops — Luke Grimes Leads New ‘Yellowstone’ Spinoff md06

If you’re going through withdrawal symptoms now that Yellowstone has ended and Season 2 of 1923 has finished, you’ll be relieved to know there is more Yellowstone coming your way! Along with the still-untitled spinoff featuring characters Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) and Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser), CBS has confirmed rumors of another spinoff—this time with the character of Kayce Dutton (Luke Grimes) at the helm.

Y: Marshals (working title) will feature Grimes in the role he originated on Yellowstone—Kayce Dutton, an ex-Navy SEAL and the youngest son of John Dutton (Kevin Costner). The series will be a mid-season replacement and will take over the time slot for The Road, a singing competition series from Yellowstone creator/producer Taylor Sheridan and singers Blake Shelton and Keith Urban.

What is Y: Marshals about?

With the Yellowstone Ranch behind him, Kayce Dutton (Grimes) joins an elite unit of U.S. Marshals, combining his skills as a cowboy and Navy SEAL to bring range justice to Montana, where he and his teammates must balance family, duty and the high psychological cost that comes with serving as the last line of defense in the region’s war on violence.

Who will produce Y: Marshals?

Taylor Sheridan will serve as an executive producer on the series. He is also a producer on the upcoming singing competition series The Road. Other executive producers on Y: Marshals include Grimes and Yellowstone producers John Linson and Art Linson.

Yes, they are. Art Linson is the father of John Linson.

Who’s in the cast of Y: Marshals?

Luke Grimes in "Yellowstone"

Luke Grimes as Kacey Dutton

Grimes spent five seasons playing Kacey Dutton, the youngest son of John Dutton (Kevin Costner). A former Navy SEAL, Kacey returns home to Montana and continues on in the family ranching business, but eventually becomes Commissioner of the Montana Livestock Association. He has struggled with PTSD, as well as the tug-of-war between his moral compass and his loyalty to the Dutton name. He is married to Monica (Kelsey Asbille) and they have a son, Tate (Brecken Merrill).

Kelsey Asbille

Kelsey Asbille as Monica

While there has been no other casting news except for Grimes, we can’t imagine we won’t see Monica and Tate. Whether or not the original actors will continue in the roles or if we’ll see them at all remains to be seen.

Asbille is part Chinese, white and indigenous American and hails from South Carolina. She has appeared in Fargo, Teen Wolf and Wind River.

L to R: Kelsey Asbille, Brecken Merrill, Luke Grimes

Brecken Merrill as Tate

Yellowstone was Merrill’s first professional acting role. He was only 9 years old when the show began filming. Now 17, Merrill has appeared in This Is UsLifeline and the upcoming project We All Got Up to Dance.

Logan Marshall-Green

Logan Marshall-Green as Pete Calvin

Logan Marshall-Green will star as Pete Calvin, one of Kayce’s friends from his military days. Marshall-Green has starred in numerous films, such as The InvitationSpider-Man: HomecomingUpgrade and Carry-On. On TV, he’s appeared on DamnationAnd Just Like That… and Dark Blue. He stars in Christopher Nolan‘s upcoming epic The Odyssey.

Will other Yellowstone characters appear on Y: Marshals?

No word yet if we’ll see other Yellowstone characters on the new series. We certainly hope we see a few pop in from time to time. Perhaps livestock agents Ryan (Ian Bohen) and Steve (James Jordan) can stop by for some training!

Where can I watch Y: Marshals?

Y: Marshals will air on CBS and will be available on Paramount+ the next day.

When does Y: Marshals premiere?

An official premiere date has yet to be announced, but we do know the show will be a mid-season replacement and air on Sundays at 9 p.m. ET on CBS. We predict the show will premiere in early 2026, perhaps in the coveted post-Super Bowl spot!
