‘Will Trent’ Star Ramón Rodríguez Teases Growing Tension With Angie
Ramón Rodriguez, who plays eccentric Will Trent, a special agent for the Georgia Bureau of Investigation based in Atlanta, shares the unexpected twists that come with the freshman crime drama Will Trent on Tuesday, March 21.
In the episode, Trent teams up with Atlanta Police Department Detective Michael Ormewood (Jake McLaughlin) to tackle a kidnapping situation involving a co-worker and an escaped murderer (Vince Swann).
Rodriguez explains that “Will questions the APD and how they’re handling [the case].” “That puts him and Ormewood at odds, but they work together to save one of them.”
But it’s not just work that’s causing trouble. Both men are in relationships with Ormewood’s protégé, Detective Angie Polaski (Erika Christensen). We know Trent and Polaski have a relationship that’s best described as “complicated.” Not helping matters: Polaski, not keeping it a secret, recently told Trent that she slept with Ormewood. Ouch!
As for Polaski, she’s distracted by a bigger problem—staying sober. Feeling uncertain about who to lean on doesn’t ease the craving. She and Will “can say the heartfelt things they want to say to each other—but not to each other,” Rodríguez says, adding that the tension will continue.
“On TV, they want things to go smoothly,” he says, but the characters “try to put on the brakes.” We’re fine with that as long as the gas tank is full.
Will Trent follows the eponymous character who was abandoned at birth and forced to endure Atlanta’s overburdened foster care system. Now the special agent has the highest clearance rate at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and is determined to make sure no one else feels the way he does. The film stars Iantha Richardson as Faith Mitchell and Sonja Sohn as Amanda Wagner.
The film is based on the best-selling books of the same name by Karin Slaughter. Slaughter, Liz Heldens, Dan Thomsen and Oly Obst are executive producers. Rodríguez serves as producer and star.
