Will Trent Season 3 Trailer Reveals Will’s Work Relationship With New Series Regular Character
The trailer for Will Trent season 3 reveals the character’s work relationship with a new series regular, and it could cause some tension. Based on the novels by Karin Slaughter, Will Trent follows the titular Georgia Bureau of Investigations Special Agent as he uses his highly observant and analytical skills to solve cases. The series, which debuted on ABC on January 3, 2023, stars Ramn Rodrguez in the titular role, with a supporting cast including Erika Christensen, Jake McLaughlin, Sonja Sohn, and Iantha Richardson. The Will Trent season 2 ending set up season 3 with a controversial cliffhanger.
ABC has dropped the official trailer for Will Trent season 3’s two-part season premiere, which will air on January 7, 2025. The trailer teases Will’s working relationship with new series regular Marion Alba, played by Gina Rodriguez, and things already look prickly. One scene in the trailer sees Marion enter a room to discuss with Will, who suggests they strategize, and she counters that they could “improvise, freestyle” before walking away, as Will reacts with a curt “No.” Check out the trailer below:
Additionally, per TV Line, new cast member Scott Foley is set to join the show in the role of Dr. Seth McDale. He is described as a confident and down-to-earth head of medicine at a local hospital and will serve as the main character Angie’s love interest for the season.
What This Means For Will Trent Season 3
Will’s Work-LIfe Could Be About To Become More FractiousThe interaction in the trailer hints at the important dynamic that will be at play for much of Will Trent season 3, which is the carefree, aloof, and instinctual Marion, versus the by-the-book, detail-oriented, meticulous Will. These two characters are very opposite in their approach to cases, and this is bound to cause friction between the duo. However, Marion seems to be relishing this far more than Will, at least from what the clip suggests. Will is going to find himself tested professionally and personally this season and Marion is likely to be at the forefront of that.
Will Trent finally pieced together the fragmented memories Will has had since the season 2 premiere, and it will undoubtedly change the show.
The situation is even more awkward given what Will faced in season 2. Will and Angie’s relationship is in turmoil following the shocking revelations of the season 2 finale, and Will’s decision to arrest Angie for covering up Lenny’s murder (and Crystal’s involvement). It is unclear if the two will make amends anytime soon, and, with Dr. Seth set to become Angie’s new love interest, this is sure to drive an even bigger wedge between Will and his one-time love.
Our Verdict On Will Trent Season 3 Reveals
Things Will Be Tough For The Protagonist
It is likely to be a Will Trent season fraught with regret and self-doubt for Will, and though he was right to arrest Angie, this is a decision that will affect him emotionally. His professional relationship with Marion will start awkward and combative, but I believe it could evolve into a very fruitful and effective working relationship, with the two complementing one another’s strengths and weaknesses. As for Angie, it’s unclear what the show’s future holds for her, and how Seth features in all of it, but life is not going to get any easier for Will any time soon.
