When last we left Will Trent, the titular crime-solver had packed a bag and skipped town after placing Angie under arrest.
Seven months later, TVLine can exclusively reveal where the GBI’s top agent went — or, at least, a glimpse at where he went. But not all is what it seems…
Let’s start with the teaser trailer embedded above, which confirms that the ABC procedural will begin Season 3 with a time jump. Faith says that it has been “months” since she last saw her partner, who has ditched his signature three-piece suits and stopped shaving. One might assume that Angie’s ex is sporting a break-up beard, but the logline for the Tuesday, Jan. 7 opener suggests that maybe, just maybe, Betty’s dad is undercover again:
When two off-duty cops are wounded, the GBI must track down Special Agent Will Trent, who recently fled town to help solve the case. As the investigation unfolds, Will is drawn into his past to clear a friend’s name amid rivalries and corruption.
Interestingly, the promo also reveals that Angie is back on the beat. This suggests that she won’t serve hard time for tampering with evidence in the Lenny Broussard case.
Series star/executive producer Ramón Rodríguez directed the first half of Will Trent’s two-part premiere, which introduces new series regular Gina Rodriguez (Jane the Virgin) as Assistant District Attorney Marion Alba. Additionally, Scott Foley (Scandal) will appear in Season 3 as Angie’s new love interest, Dr. Seth McDale.
