Will Trent Season 3: Release Date, Cast, Plot & Everything We Know
ABC’s quirky police procedural Will Trent has impressed in its first two seasons so far and has already been renewed for a third season. Based on the best-selling books by Karin Slaughter, Will Trent follows a Georgia Bureau of Investigation agent who is renowned and envied for his impossibly high clearance rate. After exposing corruption within the Atlanta Police Department, Will must not only solve cases but also continue to take down the bad guys in local law enforcement.

Highly praised by critics from the start, Will Trent sets itself apart from typical police procedurals by investing heavily in its characters and their complex relationships. Shows like Will Trent are rare and have used their first season brilliantly to build on the compelling storylines that have been introduced from the start. Season 2 is where ABC’s latest hit will find its footing, and the success of the second season has already earned the show an early renewal for a third season.

While the popular TV series isn’t returning until early fall 2024, the latest news has finally confirmed a release date for Will Trent season 3. Perhaps one of the most anticipated midseason returns, it has now been announced that Will Trent will return on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at 8 p.m. ET (via TV Line). The 18-episode third season will be followed by the midseason return of ABC’s new hit, High Potential, at 9 p.m., and The Rookie season 7 will conclude the evening starting at 10 p.m.

Season 3 will consist of 18 episodes in total and is now the longest season to date (season 1 had 13 episodes while season 2 had 10).

While it may be disappointing that Will Trent isn’t part of ABC’s fall 2024 lineup, the show has officially taken a prominent place in the network’s midseason lineup. As such, it’s now been confirmed that Will Trent season 3 will premiere on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at 8pm EST. Season 3 will consist of 18 episodes in total and is now the longest season to date (season 1 had 13 episodes while season 2 had 10).

There were very few changes to the cast between seasons 1 and 2 and that trend will likely continue in season 3. Procedurals rely heavily on continuity in the cast and Will Trent in particular has a strong relationship between characters. As such, the entire cast is expected to return, most notably Ramón Rodriguez as Will Trent. Erika Christensen is also returning as Angie Polaski, and her arrest at the end of season 2 created a new wrinkle in her relationship with Will.

A new addition has joined season 3, and Gina Rodriguez (Jane the Virgin) will play Assistant DA Marion Alba. It’s unclear how big of a role this will be for Rodriguez, but DA Alba seems like a character who could stick around for a longer period of time. Season 3 is also adding a guest star, and reality TV star Ariana Madix (Vanderpump Rules) has been cast to play a fictionalized version of herself.
