Will Trent Season 3: Meet the Cast and Uncover the New Mysteries

ABC’s quirky police procedural Will Trent has already impressed in its first two seasons thus far, and it has already been renewed for season 3. Based on the best-selling books by Karin Slaughter, Will Trent follows the titular Georgia Bureau of Investigations Special Agent who is known, and envied, for his impossibly high case clearance rate. After exposing corruption within the Atlanta Police Department, Will not only has to solve cases but has to further root out the bad elements in local law enforcement.

Scoring high marks with critics right off the bat, Will Trent separates itself from the usual police procedural by investing so much in the characters and their complicated relationships. Shows like Will Trent are rare, and it brilliantly used its premiere season to build upon the fascinating story threads that were introduced early on. Season 2 is where ABC’s latest hit will find its footing, and the success of the sophomore outing has helped earn an early season 3 renewal.

A New Cast Member Is Added

There was little change within the cast between seasons 1 and 2, and that trend will likely continue into season 3. Procedurals rely heavily on the continuity within the cast, and Will Trent especially features strong relationships between characters. Therefore, it’s expected that the entire ensemble will return, especially Ramón Rodriguez as Will Trent. Erika Christensen will also return as Angie Polaski, and her arrest at the end of season 2 introduces a new wrinkle in her relationship with Will. A newcomer has joined season 3, and Gina Rodriguez (Jane the Virgin) is set to play Assistant DA Marion Alba.

The ensemble is expected to include:

The ending of Will Trent season 2 was both a satisfying conclusion, and a big tease for what was to come in the future. Will and the team crack the serial murder case, but also reveal that Angie willingly covered up a crime. Sticking to his moralistic principals, Will arrests Angie and that will likely put a new wrinkle in their already complicated relationship. The arrival of newcomer Assistant DA Marion Alba (Gina Rodriguez) hints that Will is going to take on Atlanta’s gangs in season 3, but nothing has been confirmed regarding the next installment of Will Trent.
