‘Will Trent’ Season 2 Cast and Character Guide: Who’s Playing Who on ABC’s Crime Drama?

Agents Report for Duty! This detective isn’t getting any rest anytime soon. ABC’s flagship police crime series Will Trent is returning for its highly anticipated Season 2. Adapted from the Will Trent series of novels by Karin Slaughter, the show stars Ramón Rodríguez as Wilbur “Will” Trent, who was found abandoned as a child and raised in Atlanta’s foster care system. Things weren’t easy for Will. Not only did he grow up in a system that continued to impact him as an adult, but he also suffered from dyslexia. Despite his limitations, Will rose through the ranks of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI), earning the title of Special Agent.

Will Trent Season 2 will certainly see the detective take on more complicated cases, including investigating the identity of his mother. But most notably, the new season continues Will’s on-again, off-again relationship with a co-worker and childhood friend from the foster care system, APD Detective Angie Polaski (Erika Christensen). The upcoming season continues to build on their already strained relationship while adding another potential romance.

Will Trent Season 2 officially premieres on ABC on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at 8 p.m. CST. In the meantime, check out our cast and character guide below.

Ramón Rodríguez plays Agent Will Trent, a highly skilled GBI agent who prefers to work alone and keeps his severe dyslexia a secret, a condition that was overlooked during his difficult foster childhood. Despite any reservations he may have about him, he doesn’t care, especially considering his stellar track record in solving cases, boasting a top clearance rate in the Bureau.

Rodríguez first appeared in a series of action films, including Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, in which he played Shia LaBoeuf’s partner. Since then, the actor has appeared on screen in a number of television series, with appearances in HBO’s The Wire and Showtime’s The Affair. His most notable performances include playing the main villain, Bakuto, in two seasons of the Iron Fist series and Marvel’s The Defenders on Netflix. He also took on the role of Ryan Lope in Fox’s Gang Related, playing a rising star in the Los Angeles Police Department’s elite gang task force.

Erika Christensen plays Angie Polaski, a veteran detective with the Atlanta Police Department who brings humor to the often bleak realities of police work. She shares an on-again, off-again relationship with Will, having been friends since childhood in a group foster family where they relied on each other for support. Despite her wit, Angie struggles with addiction and has yet to confront the deep traumas of her past. As Will’s best friend and occasional romantic partner, Detective Polaski navigates the challenges of law enforcement while also battling her own personal demons. Christensen’s previous television roles include starring in the ABC drama Ten Days in the Valley, alongside Kyra Sedgwick, as well as Wicked City opposite ED Westwick. The actress also appeared in the Disney+ family drama Cheaper by the Dozen, which stars Gabrielle Union and Zach Bratt. Christensen notably spent six seasons on the critically acclaimed NBC series Parenthood, where she played Julia Braverman-Graham.

Iantha Richardson plays Faith Mitchell, Will’s partner on the force. Born into a family of law enforcement, Faith possesses a sharp intellect and has always considered herself one of the men. However, her life changed when she became pregnant at the age of 14. Despite this initial challenge, Faith managed to turn her life around and rise to the rank of Detective. Faith now faces a new assignment with Will and sees it as her biggest challenge yet. However, she approaches it with confidence, knowing that it will propel her toward her goal of becoming a respected top agent at the GBI.

Along with Will Trent, Richardson is also a series regular on American Soul, where she plays Tessa Lorraine — the show currently airs on Amazon and BET. The actress also has a recurring role as Tolu on Good Trouble on Freeform and most recently played Adult Tess on NBC’s This Is Us. Richardson made her directorial debut in 2022 with two episodes of the TV series Soul Ties and the short film J’ouvert.
