‘Will Trent’: Karin Slaughter’s Investigator Comes to Life in Trailer for New ABC Series

Will Trent, the series based on Karin Slaughter’s New York Times bestselling books of the same name, will debut on ABC in the new year.

The crime drama, which premieres Tuesday, January 3, stars Ramón Rodríguez as Will Trent, Erika Christensen as Angie Polaski, Iantha Richardson as Faith Mitchell, Jake McLaughlin as Michael Ormewood, and Sonja Sohn as Amanda Wagner.

The official synopsis reads: “Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) Special Agent Will Trent, [who] was abandoned at birth and endured a harsh upbringing in Atlanta’s overburdened foster care system. But now, determined to use his unique perspective to ensure no one else is abandoned like him, Will Trent has the highest clearance rate in the GBI.”

The official trailer, set to the Superhuman song “All Right Now” by Free, was released today. The film opens with Trent trying to take a rescued chihuahua to a shelter, but ends up taking the pup to work with him. His job happens to be a crime scene investigation. He’s taken to a house to read about the murder (similar to Hannibal’s Will Graham) of a teenage girl, where he discovers that it’s not just a murder — his skills tell him that a kidnapping has also taken place.

“Two people have been attacked… something’s wrong. Someone’s been taken from the house. Send an Amber Alert, there’s a kidnapping,” Trent says in the clip. Polaski responds, “Murder and kidnapping, that’s enough for a Monday.”

The series’ executive producers are Slaughter, Liz Heldens, Dan Thomsen, and Oly Obst.
