‘Will Trent’ Episode 7: Recap and Finale, Explained – How Will Trent Solves the Missing Gun Case?
ABC’s crime drama “Will Trent” is known for the impressive detective skills the lead detective uses to catch killers, but the showrunners make sure to showcase his many flaws in interpersonal relationships, especially with his romantic partner, Angie Polaski. This episode, however, takes a slightly different tack and chooses to go back in time and focus more on the story of Trent and Angie as teenagers running away from a foster home and the journey they went through. When Trent makes a shocking discovery, thanks to his pet dog Betty, he begins to think back to a very important day in his life as a teenager, and that is the core of this episode.
The latest episode begins with Trent waking up to the sound of a woman calling him, and finding himself in a trailer, badly injured, with a tarp blocking his view. However, the severity of his injuries has caused him to pass out again. We flash back to one day, where Trent is shirtless, preparing food for his dog Betty, and the faint scars near his neck are clearly visible. Betty begins chewing on a crumpled ball of paper, and after removing it from her mouth, Trent realizes it is the instructions for a pregnancy test. The detective doesn’t have time to ponder this potentially life-changing information, as his review is rudely interrupted by Amanda, who informs him that trouble is brewing.
The neo-Nazi group known as the Confederate Front has been known to gather men to demonstrate the power of white supremacy, and to make matters worse, a crate of assault rifles worth nearly a million dollars has gone missing. She adds that the rifles were last seen in the Atkins Co. Container Yard, and that if the Neo-Nazis had access to the container, the rifles could arm a small militia and lead to the deaths of several innocent people. Trent has no time to process this information, which is when his partner Faith shows up. Amanda informs the angry detective that Babs, the shift manager at Atkins, is waiting for Trent to arrive on the scene, while Faith finds a crumpled instruction manual in Trent’s kitchen. He tries to call Angie, but his call goes straight to voicemail.
The story flashes back to 2001, when teenage Trent and Angie escape from their foster home after taking the car keys. Back in the present, Trent and Faith arrive at the Atkins Co. Container Yard, where Babs introduces them to Taki Georgiou, the terminal groundskeeper who looks at the containers and tells him that they are UTL – Unable to Locate. Georgiou tells the agents that the day before, a truck arrived with a valid bill of lading, but the container it was here to pick up could not be identified. Meanwhile, Trent notices something suspicious with the numbers on the containers, and soon he removes a digit to reveal that the containers have been tampered with, along with the bills of lading. Babs gives the men the bill of lading, saying that they won’t do anything shady, but soon a decomposing body is discovered near the abandoned containers. Back at the Atlanta Police Department morgue, Angie and Ormewood stand by as the investigating police explain how murder victim Roland Wynders died in a shootout outside a sneaker store as the store was releasing its latest shipment. Ormewood says they have witnesses and a motive, so this should be a clean and closed case, and goes to talk to the store manager. The store manager under investigation, Lou Lou, says that Roland had just bought his last pair of sneakers when someone burst in, shot Roland, grabbed the box of sneakers, and ran away. She also says that she suspects a sneaker reseller named Pun’kin—her competitor—was in the store and causing a ruckus, but what surprises Angie is that Lou Lou calls Ormewood by his first name, Michael.
While Angie is out, the store manager reminds Ormewood that he owes her, and he replies that that’s why he took the case. Another witness, Jerry Kilargis, introduces himself to Angie and says that although the killer was wearing a hoodie, he noticed that the attacker was wearing Bobos—a very old brand of sneakers that had gone out of style decades ago. During Pun’kin’s interrogation, Ormewood severely chastises him and almost arrests him as a criminal, while Angie sneaks a photo of the reseller’s luxury sneakers. She calls Ormewood out and says that the suspect’s shoes don’t match Kilargis’ description, but her partner argues that a pair of stolen sneakers were found in Pun’kin’s car, so he
