Will Trent adds Scandal vet as a love interest

Scott Foley is joining Will Trent Season 3 as a love interest to one character that can spark more drama!

Will Trent is adding Scott Foley to the cast for Season 3. He’ll be playing a love interest, which could create a love triangle!

Scott Foley is no stranger to TV audiences. He broke out in the beloved teen drama Felicity and has added scores of shows since, like The Unit, True Blood, and his fantastic turn as Jake Ballard on the ABC smash Scandal. Foley has kept busy with shows like Whiskey Cavalier and The Big Leap.

Now, Foley is joining one of ABC’s biggest hits as he’s confirmed to have an arc on Season 3 of Will Trent! TVLine reports that Foley will show up as Dr. Seth McDale, “the confident and down-to-earth head of emergency medicine at a local hospital and Angie’s new romantic interest.”

Foley isn’t alone as also joining Season 3 is Gina Rodriguez as Marion Alba, an Assistant District Attorney working with the cops. Foley’s presence should spark the series up and has fans wondering if this means some big changes for Will and Angie’s relationship.

What does Scott Foley’s presence mean for Will Trent?
For those who have forgotten, the Season 2 finale of Will Trent had Will (Ramon Rodriguez) realizing his childhood friend and on/off lover Angie (Erika Christensen) had covered up a murder committed by protegee Crystal on Crystal’s abusive stepfather. After briefly toying with letting her go, Will arrested Angie.

The synopsis for Foley’s character indicates that Angie isn’t staying in prison, but it’s possible her police career may be over. She’s also reeling from how Will was the one arresting her, which she may see as a betrayal. That leaves her open for a new romance and Foley is the perfect actor for some dashing doctor ready to sweep her off her feet.

There’s the question of how this will affect Will, who starts Season 3 on a leave of absence from the GBI. Readers of the Karin Slaughter novels know that Will ends up with the character of Sara Linton, but there’s no hint yet that the show may use her. However, it’s likely Will will strike up sparks with Alba, so the show will balance some new romances.

The show will enjoy a run of 18 uninterrupted episodes, so there’s plenty of time for Foley to make an impact with viewers. If nothing else, having a veteran actor like Foley involved will make Will Trent Season 3 even better for fans and some romance going along with the great police drama!
