Will there be Queen Charlotte season 2?

Here’s all we know so far.

As fans await the second half of Bridgerton season 3, a number may well be diving back into the show’s hit spin-off Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story to fill the gap.

The series, which first arrived on Netflix last year, follows a young Queen Charlotte as she’s forced into an arranged marriage with the King of England, while also exploring King George’s mental health struggles.

It feels like Bridgerton is more popular than ever right now, so fans may well be wondering whether this spin-off will also be back – the more Bridgerton, the better!

But, a year on from its debut, what are the chances of a return and has anything been confirmed yet? Read on for everything you need to know about a potential second season of Netflix’s Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story.

Will there be a Queen Charlotte season 2?
There’s no word yet from Netflix on the show’s future.

The prequel has been billed as a Limited Series, but Rhimes explained during a previous interview that she wouldn’t rule out a second season.

“There have been questions, but I’m not having conversations about it yet,” she explained to Entertainment Weekly. “I could live with Charlotte and George forever, but we told a very specific story that I think is a complete tale of this complicated, imperfect love. But I’m not ruling anything out because I never know.”

Meanwhile, in April 2024, Rhimes was asked again about a potential second season in an interview with Variety, to which she said: “I feel like I’m having a conversation with Netflix! They ask me this question all the time!

“I’m trying to figure it out still. I don’t want to tell a story that doesn’t need to be told — do you know what I mean? I don’t want to make a second season of Queen Charlotte, and you’re going to be, like, ‘Well, that was not that great.'”

Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton story season 2 release date speculation
If a second season does get the green light, there will likely be a little wait until it lands on our screens.

We wouldn’t expect a potential season 2 to arrive until spring 2025 at least.

Queen Charlotte season 2 plot: what could happen?
If season 2 does go ahead, expect plenty more heartbreak in season 2 as George’s condition continues to worsen, with Charlotte doing her best to support him but ultimately unable to save him.

With the king’s mental faculties continuing to wane, the monarch’s place at the helm of society remains at risk, with Charlotte forced to buck tradition and take on greater responsibilities herself as he remains behind closed doors – which will go down like a lead balloon with Lord Bute and co.

We know from the later timeline that Charlotte succeeds in keeping their power intact, but how that unfolds could be the subject of the follow-up.

Alternatively, showrunner Shonda Rhimes could choose to focus on a different “Bridgerton story”, and there’s certainly no shortage of characters to choose from.

Is there a trailer for Queen Charlotte season 2?
Not yet: first of all we need that all-important renewal.

If confirmed, a teaser should arrive around two months before the release date, with the official trailer arriving around one month before.
