Will ‘The Rookie’ Season 8 Happen? What Fans Are Begging To Know!

“The Rookie” season 7 finale is only one month away, which begs the question: is the ABC drama returning this fall?

Yes, “The Rookie” has been renewed for season 8, which will premiere in the fall of 2025. ABC made the announcement earlier this month, simultaneously renewing “Grey’s Anatomy,” “9-1-1,” “Will Trent,” and “Shifting Gears.”

Deadline reported at the time that “The Rookie” ratings have been strong as of late. In March, the show drew its largest audience — 8.25 million over the course of three days — since a season 5 episode in 2023.

“The Rookie” stars Nathan Fillion as LAPD officer John Nolan. When the show debuted in 2018, it centered on Nolan’s experiences as the oldest rookie in the LAPD. Nolan has since risen through the ranks and even trained new rookies himself.

In addition to Fillion, “The Rookie” stars Mekia Cox as Nyla Harper, Alyssa Diaz as Angela Lopez, Richard T. Jones as Sergeant Wade Grey, Melissa O’Neil as Lucy Chen, Eric Winter as Tim Bradford, Jenna Dewan as Bailey Nune, Shawn Ashmore as Wesley Evers, and Lisseth Chavez as Celina Juarez.

Season 7, which is currently airing on ABC, also introduced two new rookies: Miles Penn (Deric Augustine) and Seth Ridley (Patrick Keleher).

Seth was fired during episode 10 after refusing to take a blood test when Lucy raised concerns that he might be faking his cancer diagnosis. He threatened to sue the department before he left, so “The Rookie” fans think Seth will be back.

“I’m eager to see what will happen with him as I’m sure this isn’t the last we have seen him,” one viewer wrote via Reddit. “I’m excited for the drama.”

Season 7 of “The Rookie” premiered in January. The season finale is set to air on Tuesday, May 13.
