‘It Breaks My Heart’: Young Sheldon Star Feels Bad About Character’s Fate
The final season of Young Sheldon capped off with the passing of George Cooper (Lance Barber) and Sheldon (Iain Armitage) setting out for Caltech. As for Missy Cooper (Raegan Revord), fans have an idea of what the future is like for that character due to The Big Bang Theory.
In an interview with TVLine, Revord shared her thoughts on the future of Missy after the end of Young Sheldon. In The Big Bang Theory, Missy is introduced in the first season, revealed to be working as a hostess as Fuddruckers. In Season 7, Sheldon visits the family when Missy has her first baby in Texas. Adult Missy would return in Season 11 when it is revealed that the character has since separated from her husband, though she’s pregnant with their second child. The future of the character beyond that point is unclear.
Young Sheldon executive producer Steve Molaro comments on a key change for the older Sheldon Cooper in the series finale.
“It breaks my heart,” Revord said of what becomes of Missy in the future. “She just doesn’t have it easy. Her whole life, she was kind of ignored because of her [twin] brother, and the one person who paid her attention died. She’s left with a grieving mom who probably [isn’t] there for her the way that she should have been because they’re all dealing with [George’s death] in their own way. Mary very much leans into her religion… and in Big Bang, Missy’s a waitress, she’s got all these kids [and] she’s the least successful Cooper kid.”
“Her whole life, she was kind of ignored because of her [twin] brother, and the one person who paid her attention died.”
Revord added that she’s hoping that the character will ultimately “find some peace and happiness” after her apparent struggles in life during the timeline of The Big Bang Theory.
Young Sheldon is not just an extension of The Big Bang Theory, it’s a fantastic sitcom. But what makes this show more inviting than its predecessor?
More of the Missy character could be explored in the upcoming spinoff series Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage. The new series will focus primarily on Georgie (Montana Jordan) and Mandy (Emily Osment), but special appearances from other Cooper family members could still possibly happen. Executive producer Steve Holland is leaving the door open for Cooper family cameos, though he said that the series will falso be focused on gettting distinguished as its own series rather than a new season of Young Sheldon.
Will Missy Pop Up in the Young Sheldon Spinoff?
“I think, you know, we’ve always talked about this new show as this world getting to continue,” Holland explained. “It’s important for us that it create its own identity and it isn’t just Young Sheldon Season 8 — part of the move to multi-cam is for it to have its own identity — but at the same time, these people are family, and they live in the same town, and it is always our hope that this is a world where they’re going to pop up, and that these stories will get to continue in some fashion.”
Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage will debut in the fall on CBS.
