Will Grey’s Anatomy Season 22 Fix Warren and Station 19?

One development in Ben Warren’s story during Grey’s Anatomy season 21’s finale can ensure Grey’s Anatomy season 22 continues his Station 19 story. Ben’s key storyline in Station 19’s final season had everything to do with his difficulty focusing on firefighting because he wished to follow the patients he saved and stabilized while firefighting into the OR. Being drawn to the OR made Ben’s return to Grey’s Anatomy season 21 consequential, as it would have meant Warren could finally be a resident again, studying to become a surgeon. Such an outcome was only partially achieved in Grey’s Anatomy season 21.

Grey’s Anatomy season 20’s ending’s consequences meant key Grey Sloan Memorial doctors didn’t have their jobs by season 21’s beginning, and this included Bailey and Teddy, leaving Ben to spend his time volunteering at the Elena Bailey Clinic instead of immediately joining a resident program. While this changed during Sydney Heron’s last day in Grey’s Anatomy season 21, with Ben finally returning to Grey Sloan as a resident in a temporary capacity, his journey throughout the season did little to expand his story as Station 19 promised. Season 22 can nevertheless change that based on Grey’s Anatomy season 21’s ending.

How Grey’s Anatomy Season 21 Underutilized Ben Warren
Warren Gained Little New Experience In Grey’s Anatomy Season 21

Ben Warren gaining a temporary spot as a resident at Grey Sloan put him on the right path to become a surgeon, but Grey’s Anatomy season 21 criminally underutilized Ben. Despite season 21 benefiting from a longer run compared to season 20, which was comprised of only 10 episodes and had Ben appear still as a first responder, Ben’s role in it wasn’t clear. What Grey’s Anatomy season 21 made a point to focus on was Ben reacclimatizing to Grey Sloan, getting used to the hospital’s new system and his new position, including getting to know his year’s other residents.

However, Grey’s Anatomy season 21 did little to let Ben progress in his surgical abilities. While Warren participated in plenty of surgeries and procedures both in the OR and the ER, his abilities didn’t seem to be better at the end of season 21 than they were at the beginning. This fully diverged from the interns’ experiences in Grey’s Anatomy season 21, as all four of the remaining central ones had gained a better understanding of the subject and confidence in the OR. Instead, Ben’s story focused on his feud with Teddy and the problems with Bailey being his superior.

Ben Leaving The Grey Sloan Program Can Fulfill His Original Station 19 Exit Goal
Warren Left Station 19 Because He Wanted To Go Back To Surgery

Although the chaos of season 21’s ending didn’t let Teddy officially fire Ben, Bailey’s announcement that Teddy wouldn’t recommend bringing Warren on board permanently means Ben’s future will not be at Grey Sloan in Grey’s Anatomy season 22. Such a development might seem a failure as it pushes Ben to find another residency program to apply to, but it isn’t on closer look, as Ben did everything in his power to take care of his patients, and yet Teddy didn’t see his potential in Grey’s Anatomy season 21.

Knowing he did everything he could makes Ben sure of his abilities and of where he stands, making him free to proceed whichever way he wants in Grey’s Anatomy season 22.

Ben’s words about having no regrets and standing “behind his choices to save lives, every time,” perfectly exemplify why Grey’s Anatomy season 22 can finally continue his Station 19 season 7 story. Ben’s connection to Bailey stifled his chances in season 21, as Miranda didn’t do enough to support him and couldn’t, because she wanted him to succeed on his own, nevertheless worrying about his situation and hovering. However, knowing he did everything he could makes Ben sure of his abilities and of where he stands, making him free to proceed whichever way he wants in Grey’s Anatomy season 22.

How Grey’s Anatomy Season 22 Can Finally Let Ben Thrive
Not Working With Bailey & Teddy Can Let Ben Focus On Becoming A Better Doctor

With Warren having already spent Grey’s Anatomy season 21 adjusting to being a doctor instead of a first responder, he can finally focus on becoming a better surgeon in season 22. Ben’s actions in season 21 proved his willingness to do whatever he thinks best for his patients, whether his past as a doctor or a firefighter informs that decision. With that out of the way, and with his feud with Teddy not being a problem anymore if he moves to another residency program, Ben can finally flourish in his best version of a surgeon in Grey’s Anatomy season 22.
