Showrunner Andrea Newman spoke to TV Line, discussing the big kiss and declarations of love between Carver and Violet. In the aftermath of those romantic moments, Carver revealed to Violet he was possibly taking a job in Denver. So, where does that leave them? “Yeah, it’s an almost impossible situation, because he sees the only road to getting better and staying sober as getting away from all the things that trigger him and sent him off spiraling,” Newman says to the outlet. “So he has a big decision to make, and if he makes one to stay, does that put this onus suddenly on Violet, like he stayed for her, and if he can’t stay well and stay clean when he’s there, is it her fault? So it’s this beautiful coming together, but it brings up all these questions and impossibilities. So we’ll see how that shakes out, too.”
‘Chicago Fire’ Season 14 Harbors Uncertainty for Several Firefighters
In light of Newman’s comments, there is the suggestion that perhaps the show might bring back Lockett’s Carver in Season 14. To this suggestion, the showrunner responds, saying:
“We don’t have anything solidly planned for him. It’s a great thing that we have people come and go on this show. They’ll leave and then we’ll get to see them again. Thirteen seasons [later], we’re bringing back Cruz’s Flaco cousins from Season 1! [Laughs] It’s like you never know what will happen. Anything could happen with those two. We love Jake, we love the character of Carver.”
Another shaky circumstance for Season 14 centers around Herrmann (David Eigenberg) and his decision not to lead Firehouse 51. While he was the anointed successor of Wallace Boden (Eamonn Walker) after his departure, the firefighter ultimately decided not to dip his feet into leadership waters in the Season 13 finale. It is a decision that will bring some uncertainty to his personal finances going forward. “What Herman will do now that he’s taken a pay cut to make money – because we know he’s not the best with money and finances, so he’s going to try and find all sorts of new ways to make up the difference – and yeah, Mouch is going to feel bad about that and try and help,” Newman said.
