Although the popular comedy largely focuses on the marriage between Georgie Cooper (Montana Jordan) and Mandy McAllister (Emily Osment) as they raise their newborn in Texas, the spinoff has featured several actors from Young Sheldon. That includes Missy (Revord), Mary (Zoe Perry), Meemaw (Annie Potts), and even George Cooper (Lance Barber) in a dream sequence. Armitage, however, has not returned as Sheldon.
During an interview with Entertainment Tonight to promote her new YA rom-com novel Rules for Fake Girlfriends, Revord revealed that she had just finished shooting an episode of Georgie & Mandy with Perry. But when asked whether audiences might see Armitage as Sheldon, Revord wasn’t sure if that would work.
In her comments below, the debut author explains that Georgie & Mandy follows the Big Bang lore, where Georgie and Sheldon aren’t on speaking terms, and notes that this would make a cameo from Armitage difficult. Still, Revord allows for the possibility that it could happen via a loophole:
“That would be so much fun, but I feel like if, because they’re sticking to the Big Bang Theory lore and everything, because the whole thing in The Big Bang Theory is Georgie and Sheldon don’t talk, because they kind of have a rift between them after George dies. And so if they’re sticking to that, I feel like it wouldn’t make sense for Sheldon to come back. But who knows? Maybe they’ll find a loophole. They have found loopholes before. Maybe they’ll find one again.”
What This Means For Georgie & Mandy
Georgie and Mandy don’t get along very well in their later years. The Big Bang Theory explains Georgie and Sheldon’s relationship as one of conflict. The older Georgie blames Sheldon for what he sees as Sheldon abandoning the family after their father’s death, with Mary changing deeply as a result.
Considering it’s a sitcom, TBBT attempts to portray this rift with a light touch, presenting it as a personality clash between the brainy Sheldon and the unlucky Georgie. But as Revord mentions, if the writers find a loophole, perhaps there was a period of reconciliation between Sheldon and Georgie that could be retconned or otherwise unearthed.
This is where it becomes important to remember that Georgie & Mandy is created by the trio of Chuck Lorre, Steven Molaro, and Steve Holland. All three have an extensive history in the Big Bang Theory world. They would have the utmost authority to retcon the Georgie and Sheldon relationship in a way that made sense.
Our Take Our Sheldon’s Absence In Georgie & Mandy
A simple reason that Armitage isn’t in Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage is that the story isn’t about Sheldon. The character’s arc was fully explored in two separate shows. While he could always guest appear, the main priority of this new spinoff is to explore how his family, and especially his brother, forged ahead without him.
