NCIS and NCIS: Origins won’t be airing new episodes tonight, but exciting things await the Naval Criminal Investigative Service agents when the shows return. The Navy-themed procedural shook things up this season. At the top of the TV cycle, NCIS swapped their Island-themed offshoot for the NCIS: Origins prequel following the cancelation of NCIS: Hawai’i before season 4. The franchise also returned its Aussie-themed spinoff for another season, with NCIS: Sydney currently airing episodes for its sophomore run.
While the stories look different this season after CBS switched up its programming, NCIS fans must wait another week to see what happens next. Although Mark Harmon no longer plays Leroy Jethro Gibbs in the flagship series, NCIS: Origins returns the characters in its prequel offshoot, which focuses on Gibbs and other NIS agents and Navy veterans at NIS in 1991. The backstory-heavy offshoot is taking off as it shifts its focus away from its main character to accommodate other stories, but there won’t be any new flashbacks this week due to the holiday.
Why There Are No New NCIS Season 22 & NCIS: Origins Episodes Tonight (February 17, 2025)
NCIS Is Taking A Break For President’s Day
NCIS and NCIS: Origins won’t air new episodes tonight due to the President’s Day holiday. Since its return, NCIS season 22 has aired three episodes. In NCIS season 22, episode 10, “Baker’s Man,” the show returned with an outing centered on Alden Parker (Gary Cole), the Major Case Response Team’s (MCRT) leader. Alden saved his crush, Eleni Kostakis, from her role in a local drug operation with Melina Kanakaredes guest starring as the Greek baker. Most recently, NCIS focused on Kasie Hines (Diona Reasoner) in “Fun and Games.”
While the NCIS franchise won’t offer anything new this Monday, fans can revisit stories that inform the current season instead.
Instead of new episodes, CBS will air NCIS reruns instead. Fans can catch NCIS season 22, episode 2, “Foreign Bodies,” on Monday, February 17, 2025. The outing focused on NCIS Director Leon Vance (Rocky Carroll) after someone dies in the leader’s office. Prequel fans can catch the rerun of NCIS: Origins episode 6, “Incognito,” after, wherein young Gibbs (Austin Stowell) and Lala Dominguez (Mariel Molino) go undercover to intercept the sale of classified military specs. While the NCIS franchise won’t offer anything new this Monday, fans can revisit stories that inform the current season instead.
Will Will New Episodes Of NCIS Season 22 & NCIS: Origins Release?
Only One NCIS Show Will Return Next Week
Despite this week’s hiatus, fans don’t have to wait long to see the next installment in NCIS season 22. A new NCIS episode will air on Monday, February 24, 2025, at the flagship’s regular air time. Episodes for NCIS season 22 have been consistent so far, and the show will follow that trend after it returns. Following episode 13 next week, CBS will air NCIS season 22, episode 14, “Close to Home,” on March 3.
Sadly, NCIS: Origins fans must wait even longer for new episodes. NCIS: Origins won’t return with new episodes for the remainder of February. CBS will fill the procedural’s time slot with its new medical procedural, Watson, instead. Rather than a standard episode count for a network TV season, typically between 22 and 24 installments, NCIS: Origins season 1 will have 18 episodes. Therefore, the show has to take more breaks than the flagship to accommodate its shorter run.
What To Expect From The Upcoming NCIS & NCIS: Origins Episodes
NCIS And NCIS: Origins Have Exciting Possibilities Ahead
NCIS season 22 will return with episode 13, “Bad Blood,” on February 24, and the outing promises a compelling case. The promotional video for episode 13 shows Agent Knight (Katrina Law) and Agent Parker discovering a human skull emerging in a vat of a thick, mysterious substance. While it’s unclear if the skull is real or just a replica, the agents will be in for a gruesome investigation. The outing could be a standard case, but fans should expect the show to move the NCIS Gabrielle LaRoche mole plot forward as it nears its season finale.
When NCIS: Origins returns, expect the show to continue diverging from Leroy Jethro Gibbs to focus on other NIS agents and military veterans. In the past couple of NCIS: Origins episodes, flashbacks, and stories have highlighted NCIS: Origins characters like Mike Franks (Kyle Schmid) and Dick Kowalski (Michael Harney). The narrative change broadens the scope of the prequel to focus on the backstories of other service members, changing the tone of the series yet again as the freshman procedural establishes its voice. Hopefully, NCIS: Origins will continue its promising trend when it returns.
