Why the Bode–Gabriela Relationship Should End for Good

The way Fire Country handles Bode and Gabriela mirrors the relationship itself: messy, inconsistent, and emotionally volatile. To make matters more confusing, Stephanie Arcila suggested in an April 2025 Deadline interview that Gabriela could still return someday. “I never say never,” she said, acknowledging her connection to the character.

But if the writers intend to reunite the pair, they have done so in the most confusing way possible. Gabriela’s exit gives fans just enough hope to keep waiting—while effectively preventing Bode from moving forward in any meaningful way. As long as Gabriela lingers as “the one who got away,” Bode can’t fully invest in another relationship without the writers risking backlash or implying he’s betraying her.

And even if Gabriela does return, the show’s track record suggests their reunion might end in tragedy anyway. Fire Country has never shied away from high-stakes shock value, as seen with Cara’s death in Season 2 and Vince’s in Season 3. There’s no guarantee the writers wouldn’t use a rekindled Bode–Gabriela romance as set-up for more heartbreak.

At this point, the pairing has been dragged out for so long—and put through so many repetitive, exhausting beats—that the show would be better off letting it go permanently. Both characters deserve growth and storylines that don’t hinge on recycled romantic turmoil. It’s time for Fire Country to move on from Bode and Gabriela once and for all.
