Olympic legend Simone Bilesis no doubt hoping that good things come to those who wait—particularly when that wait has stretched on for more than two years. That’s the amount of time that the 28-year-old gymnast and her husband, Chicago Bears player Jonathan Owens, have been waiting for their custom-built marital mansion in Texas to be finished.
Though it appeared as though construction was nearing an end, with Biles revealing that the final few details, from the swimming pool to the front lawn, were being completed, she has now hinted that she and Owens are still anticipating the day they can move in to the stunning lakefront abode. Taking to her Instagram Stories on July 13, Biles—who has yet to say whether she plans to make a bid for a spot on Team USA in 2028—shared a video of a picturesque sunset taken from her backyard.
The only problem? The backyard in question is located at her other dwelling: a Spring, Texas, property that she purchased in 2020, four years after she made her Olympic debut. Biles and Owens are understood to have been living at the home while work on their incredible custom home is completed—and the Olympian’s latest social media post from the abode suggests that has not yet happened.
Still, there are worse places to be holed up in during the final phases of construction. The house where the happy couple are currently residing may not have been purpose-built for them, but Biles has made multiple updates to the property since moving in five years ago—namely the addition of a stunning backyard swimming pool and entertainment area. Adding a unique element to that space is a funky dining table that comes with swings instead of chairs, where the gymnast regularly hosts her loved ones for fun gatherings.
Biles and Owens’ new dwelling, when finished, will offer some special amenities that arguably can’t be rivaled by those found inside their first shared home. According to Biles, these will include a wet bar, game room, home theater, pet spa, and multiple balconies overlooking the water. Throughout the construction process, which began in early 2023, Biles has shared several progress updates on her social media, beginning with the completion of the home’s wooden frame.
In October, she said that the dwelling was nearing completion, showing off several of the stunning interior decor touches that had been installed, including a dramatic black-and-white marble backsplash in the kitchen and some quirky patterned tiling in the laundry room. Outside, her images captured the newly built swimming pool, which overlooks the lake and features a lavish spa. The photos revealed that the swimming pool’s foundation had been laid, the structure was almost complete, and it just needed an overhaul of the surrounding space—as well as some water to fill it with.
Then, last week, Biles shared that an exciting update had been made: the installation of her front lawn. “We have grass,” she said while sharing a photo of the lawn on her Instagram Stories, adding a shocked screaming emoji for emphasis. In addition to the grass, the photo showed several brick planter beds that are stationed at the front of the abode and have already been filled with an array of foliage. The white exterior and black window frames could also be seen, with a flowering tree in the background adding some vibrant color to the shot. Though the grass may not mark the most significant progression in the homebuilding process, its arrival suggests that Biles and Owens’ opulent new dwelling may almost be complete, just in time for the latter to head to Chicago for preseason training.
Owens is preparing to start his second season with the Bears, after signing a two-year contract in 2024. He started his NFL career with the Arizona Cardinals in 2018, before moving to the Houston Texans, where he was playing when he and Biles began dating. Though his football success has forced him to bounce around multiple locations over the past three years, Biles has remained his most avid supporter, regularly appearing on the sidelines of his games, more often than not sporting some custom merch made in his honor. And it seems this season, she will take that support one step further, noting in May that she and Owens had found a home in Chicago, where they will likely base themselves during the season.
