When Season 3 of Will Trent introduced Marion Alba (played by Gina Rodriguez), many fans thought she might be the person to finally help the main character Will Trent heal and find stability. Early episodes teased a romantic connection: they started dating after crossing paths during an investigation, and there was genuine chemistry between them.

But as Season 3 progressed, things unraveled — especially after the emotionally devastating events in Episode 11. Will accidentally shot and killed a 14-year-old boy, and the guilt crushed him. Though legally cleared, he was haunted by shame, unable to accept that it was a “clean shot.” Marion tried to help, but Will pushed her away. In Episode 12, when she told him she loved him, his muted response spoke volumes — and she decided to call it quits, at least for now.
The breakup felt inevitable — not because Marion did anything wrong necessarily, but because Will isn’t emotionally ready. He’s burdened by trauma, guilt, and self-doubt. His reaction signals that he’s not in a place to build a relationship, and certainly not one based on honesty and emotional availability.
Given all that, it’s becoming clear that Marion isn’t the “endgame” for Will. She may have been a possibility — before the accident, before the guilt — but now the show seems to pivot elsewhere. Their brief romance may have been a chapter, but likely not the final one for Will’s heart and future.
