Despite lukewarm reviews, the film has outperformed major titles like Troll 2 and Cast Away, showing once again that during the holidays, feel-good familiarity often beats critical acclaim on Netflix.
At a time when families are settling in to stream their favorite movies, the streaming charts are perhaps more important than ever. With that in mind, what else is proving popular on Netflix? With My Secret Santa in first place, second place is currently held by the monster sequel Troll 2. Noah Baumbach’s comedy-drama Jay Kelly, starring George Clooney and Adam Sandler, is in third place, with 2014’s animated sequel Rio 2 in fourth, and Tom Hanks’ survival classic Cast Away in fifth. The hugely popular KPop Demon Hunters is in sixth, with the first Rio in seventh, Cheaper by the Dozen in eighth, Guy Ritchie’s The Covenant in ninth, and Cheaper by the Dozen 2 rounding out the top ten.
