In just a few days, the second season of Tracker will premiere, and with it, the return of reward-seeking survivalist Colter Shaw (Justin Hartley) and his strange, eye-catching missions. As announced a few months ago, the hit series’ second season will not feature its first season’s main character. Robin Weigert, who played Teddi Bruin, will not be returning as a main cast member for Season 2. Now, another Season 1 star has addressed how the character’s absence will affect the series moving forward.
Teddi’s absence from Colter’s sidekick will be filled by Fiona Rene’s Reenie stepping in to team up with Velma Bruin, played by Abby McEnany. Teddi was a notable character in the first season of Tracker, and speaking to Screen Rant, Rene explained how the development will affect the series moving forward. Rene’s full response reads: “Overall, I feel like the team has become stronger and more cohesive. Robin Weigert is a real star, and I love her both personally and professionally, but I think it really gives the characters of Reenie, Velma, and Bobby a chance to come together, as opposed to the characters of Velma and Teddi being so separate from the other two, which I think is necessary because we’re developing something and turning into a little family that supports our boy without us being a team when he’s gone, literally together and talking to each other, it would be really hard to support.”
As part of the Tracker, Elwood Reid’s preview of the upcoming season, it was revealed that the character of Teddi will not be killed off. Instead, the explanation for the absence is that “[Velma] and Teddy broke up. Velma is struggling with what it means to be abandoned in some way, and she’s going to work through that emotion.” From Rene’s comments, it sounds like Velma will really be struggling with being left out, and she’ll need the rest of the group to act as a support system.
Premiering earlier this year in February and running through the end of May, Tracker emerged as a huge hit on Paramount+, and it’s no surprise to see the show return so soon. The next season will use Teddi’s departure to serve as a bonding opportunity for Reenie, Bobby, and Velma. This will be something that will be more evident in Rene and Velma’s relationship, with Reid teasing, “Both of these women, as they go through some things in their lives, will be able to lean on each other and be annoying to each other.”
Tracker Season 2 premieres October 13, with new episodes dropping every Sunday. You can catch up on the first season of Tracker on Paramount+.
