CBS’s joyous comedy series Ghosts has been confirmed for a fifth and sixth season, which is music to the ears for everyone and anyone who’s fallen in love with the eclectic group of spirits. Following Samantha and Jay Arondekar, the young couple inherit Woodstone Mansion from Sam’s distant relative. After a near-death experience, Sam can see and communicate with the mansion’s ghostly inhabitants — spirits from various historical periods who died on the property.
As Sam and Jay convert the mansion into a bed and breakfast, they form an unconventional family with their spectral housemates, tackling challenges while learning the ghosts’ unfinished business and personal histories. This feel-good show has captured people’s hearts with its silliness and fun nature, and as we wait patiently for more news, here’s a look at everything we know about Ghosts Season 5.
Keep Your Eyes Peeled at Halloween
Back in February, CBS officially renewed Ghosts for Seasons 5 and 6, following strong ratings for its fourth season. At first, the show was seen as an unexpected but welcome hit. Before season 2, Variety reported CBS Entertainment president Kelly Kahl’s thoughts, “It’s the most pleasant kind of surprise,” Material we fell in love with, a pilot we fell in love with. It’s like most hits, nothing screamed that, ‘hey, this is gonna be a breakout hit.’ We hoped for it. We always do. But it was a little bit of a departure from what we normally do.”
While there hasn’t been an official premiere date announced, Ghosts season 5 is expected to follow the show’s founding pattern with a Fall 2026 debut, likely in late September or early October, tying in nicely with the spooky season, remaining essential viewing on Thursday nights.
A Sea of Familiar Faces
The entire main cast is expected to return, including Rose McIver as Samantha and Utkarsh Ambudkar as Jay, the living owners of Woodstone Mansion. The ghostly ensemble will also be back, featuring Brandon Scott Jones (Captain Isaac), Richie Moriarty (Pete), Danielle Pinnock (Alberta), Asher Grodman (Trevor), Román Zaragoza (Sasappis), Rebecca Wisocky (Hetty), and Devan Chandler Long (Thorfinn).
If It Ain’t Broke, Don’t Fix It
Chasing more of a good thing, Season 5 will continue to cover the relationship between Sam, Jay, and their eclectic housemates, who include a Revolutionary War captain, a 1920s jazz singer, a Viking, and a wealthy woman. Producers have hinted at introducing new ghosts to the mansion, potentially from more recent periods than we’ve seen. Showrunners, a double whammy of Joe Port and Joe Wiseman, revealed to Collider they’re also interested in more flashback elements for the spirits: “We did it to some degree with the Isaac/Hamilton episode, but I would like to see more of all the ghosts alive in bigger doses, and I think there’s some great opportunities to do that.”
What To Expect from Season 5’s Story
Ghosts Season 4’s finale ended with ample room to probe in Season 5. Prohibition-era singer Alberta realized that scout leader Pete might be exactly what she needs. Their relationship, brewing slowly, reached a turning point when Pete left his girlfriend, Donna, to share a kiss with Alberta. Elsewhere, Jay, who can’t see spirits like Sam, unwittingly signed with publicist Elias Woodstone (Matt Walsh), a ghost in human disguise with sinister intentions of dragging Jay to Hell.
Without giving too much away, Port revealed to TV Line that Sam and the ghosts need a resolution for Jay and fast: “I do think that Sam has gone out of her way to help and placate the ghosts, and Jay has often been an unfortunate bystander in those situations, and maybe some of those dynamics are coming to a bit of a head as we open up this season.”
Ghosts Marathon, Anyone?
With Seasons 5 and 6 incoming, there are a whopping 44 episodes to look forward to. Pair that with the four seasons before and the five British seasons, it seems Ghost marathons are a calling. One Reddit user said, ‘I’ve only seen a couple of episodes, but this makes me happy!” So maybe it’s time for you to take a chance on a heavenly show with a whole lot of spirit(s).
