Although one Ghosts character often has to deal with others dismissing their spirit power, season 4, episode 15 proved just how unexpectedly useful their skill can be in the right hands. The ghosts of CBS’s Ghosts are an interesting crew of mismatched personalities, and their bizarre supernatural powers only make the lineup more interesting. Most of the ghosts in the Woodstone Mansion have powers that are unique to them and even the ones who don’t know their powers yet can be fairly certain that they will eventually uncover them.

After all, Hetty didn’t learn that she could be seen by living humans on St. Patrick’s Day until season 4, episode 16, “St. Hetty’s Day.” Similarly, Pete didn’t know he could leave the grounds of the mansion and travel worldwide until season 3, while Sass’s Ghosts season 4 stories have mostly focused on his season 3 discovery that he can enter the dreams of the living. These powers sometimes make the more modest abilities of other ghosts seem less impressive, but season 4, episode 15, “The Bachelorette Party” proved this isn’t necessarily the case.

In “The Bachelorette Party,” Alberta’s suspicion of musicians and a misunderstood conversation led her to assume that her descendant’s fiancée was cheating on her. After asking Sass to invade her dream and warn her of her partner’s infidelity, Alberta was mortified to discover she was mistaken. She rushed to clarify things for her panicked descendant. Although she can’t speak to the living, Alberta uses her humming ability to communicate with her living descendant, reassure her, and save her engagement.

It is more about how the ghosts use their powers than the specific powers they have.

Alberta’s power seems to be one of the less flashy paranormal skills boasted by the show’s heroes, particularly after season 4’s new arrival Patience the Puritan revealed she could make the walls bleed real human blood. However, not only did Ghosts season 4’s new short-lived spirit Chris outshine all the gang with his ability to fly around the world at will, but Alberta’s poignant use of her powers proved a pivotal point about these abilities. Ultimately, it is more about how the ghosts use their powers than the specific powers they have.

Alberta built a connection with her living descendant and, as a result, was able to save her marriage in time. Admittedly, Alberta was also the one who imperiled her engagement in the first place by meddling with her affairs. However, it is still worth noting that Alberta’s power itself, while not the most obviously impressive among the show’s cast of heroes, proved pivotal in this instance. While Ghosts season 4’s Trevor stories proved his more outwardly impressive power could be as much of a nuisance as a gift, Alberta’s plot showed how she could maximize her power’s potential.

Alberta’s ability is less dramatic than Pete and Trevor’s skills, but it works better for her since she spent her life working as a nightclub entertainer and knows just how much the right tune can change someone’s entire outlook on life. Since he was a travel agent during his life, it is no surprise that Pete has done a lot with his ability to travel internationally since he discovered the ability. However, it is worth noting that Pete was also a patsy for his wife’s mob family during his life.

Trevor’s skill could allow him to almost live like a sheltered human, but his unbridled ambition and love of scheming often instead lead to chaos.

Since he never realized the travel agency he worked for was a mafia-affiliated money-laundering operation, the incurious Pete was a perfect useful idiot for the mob. My least favorite Ghosts character Carol eventually apologized for dragging Pete into this world of crime, but he still ended up using his power to date a murderer thanks to his enduring naïveté. Similarly, Trevor’s skill could allow him to almost live like a sheltered human, but his unbridled ambition and love of scheming often instead lead to chaos.

All Ghost Powers Are Useful Under The Right Circumstances

Trevor could do a lot with the ability to type and use a computer, but in season 4 alone, this skill led him to cause a major fight between Jay and his sister Bela and inadvertently make life harder for Jay by bribing a restaurant critic. This proves that the value of the power eventually comes down to how well the ghost uses it, and what purpose they use it for.

Much like Ghosts season 4’s Isaac story highlighted just how much the character needed to mature after his failed engagement in season 3, “The Bachelorette Party” showed just how far even the most modest ghost power can go in the right hands. After Ghosts season 4, episode 15, it is hard to imagine any ghost mocking Alberta’s skill again despite how limited its applications may seem at first glance.
