Why does Kelly Severide from Chicago Fire look so familiar?

Some people are perfectly suited for their jobs.

Kelly Severide has been a fixture at Firehouse 51 for nearly a decade. He worked with his close friends Matthew Casey (Jesse Spencer) and Leslie Shay (Lauren German) until Shay’s death. He dated a large number of women associated with the fire station before becoming engaged to firefighter Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo). Heck, even his estranged father (Treat Williams) was a firefighter and eventually chief.

So it came as a shock in the Season 9 finale when it looked like he might not survive his latest dangerous encounter, an unexpected turn of events that left some fans worried about his future. he’s on the show. Those fans certainly breathed a sigh of relief when Season 10 began, as it looks like Severide will remain in the firehouse for now.

Since joining the show, actor Severide Taylor Kinney’s time in the “One Chicago” universe has been a full-time job and then some. He appeared in nearly 200 episodes of his hometown series “Chicago Fire,” but also about 10 episodes each of “Chicago P.D.” and “Chicago Med.” But that doesn’t mean you’ve never seen him anywhere else. Here are some other places where you may have noticed the actor.

Taylor Kinney tries to escape from Mom’s Fashion House

After first gaining attention as a model, Kinney took a leap into her acting career, starting not with small roles in an episode of “ER” or “Law & Order “, but the main character in the MyNetworkTV nighttime soap opera “Fashion House.”

Kinney plays Luke Gianni, the son of Maria Gianni (Bo Derek), the scheming owner of the fashion design company House of Gianni. Luke is an artist who becomes involved with a new designer at his mother Michelle Miller’s (Natalie Martinez) company. When it becomes clear that his mother disapproves of the relationship, he must choose between loyalty to her and to his new lover. Twists and turns ensue: Michelle becomes a target of the mob; Luke’s mother almost married his half-brother; murder, mayhem, you get the idea.

Kinney’s acting start happened so quickly that it even caught his mother off guard, as he explained in an interview hosted by Deepest Dream. The show’s soap format also led to some unique challenges, as the crew tried to film a large number of episodes in just a few months. “You shoot episode 22, 36, 40, 42, and so you have to go through thousands of pages [of script] and shoot them all,” he said. With a schedule like that, it’s surprising Kinney had time to find a new job, but he did.

Taylor Kinney plays the new guy in Trauma

Joining “One Chicago” isn’t Kinney’s first time playing a first responder for NBC. In 2009, he starred in the network’s medical drama “Trauma,” which follows a group of San Francisco first responders as they deal with their work after a rescue helicopter crash kills one of the crew members. Their team died.

Kinney plays EMT Glenn Morrison, a rookie EMT transferred to the unit after the accident. This sets him apart from many of the rest –– he does not share their grief in the same way –– and also makes him the target of bullying, jokes, and sometimes was severely reprimanded when he joined the crew.

Kinney told Hollywood Outbreak that he was able to sympathize with the character because he himself was relatively inexperienced as an actor; At that point he had only been working on screen for about three years. “I admire all these people so much,” he said, naming co-stars Anastasia Griffith, Derek Luke and Cliff Curtis. “It runs throughout the role, because Glenn is so new and he’s so raw.”

Taylor Kinney plays the hairy gentleman on The Vampire Diaries

In 2010, Kinney transitioned from the canceled series Trauma to a recurring role in the second season of the CW supernatural drama series The Vampire Diaries.

Kinney’s role was to play werewolf Mason Lockwood, brother of Richard Lockwood (Robert Pralgo) and uncle of Tyler Lockwood (Michael Trevino), who returns to Mystic Falls after his brother’s death. But Mason has another goal when he returns home: He’s out to get Tyler’s moonstone for his lover, witch Katherine Pierce (Nina Dobrev). While he succeeded in obtaining it, he was soon killed by Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder), who tore his heart out.

Despite the unexpected and brutal ending, Kinney had a good time working on the series. “As an actor, some of my favorite jobs are night exteriors,” he told the Los Angeles Times in 2010. “Any time we were on location and shooting at night, it was just magic. I had to work so much on ‘The Vampire Diaries’ that it made me dizzy.”

And even though he only appeared in a handful of episodes, Kinney told Glamor that the show played a key role in raising his profile as an actor. “People still love [my character] Mason Lockwood. That movie helped me a lot,” he said.

Taylor Kinney plays the other man in The Other Woman

Although his workload on Chicago Fire and the rest of its sister series kept him busy for much of this decade, Kinney still found time to invest in film work. He played a member of SEAL Team Six in “Zero Dark Thirty” (he was the one who comforted the children with glow sticks); a reporter and kidnapping suspect in the thriller “The Forest” starring Natalie Dormer; and romance with the 2014 comedy “The Other Woman.”

The plot of that film follows a trio of women who realize they are all seeing the same man (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) and that he is lying to them about his relationship status. His wife and two oblivious girlfriends team up to take revenge on him. In contrast to Coster-Waldau’s Mark, Kinney plays nice guy Phil, Kate’s (Leslie Mann) brother, who develops romantic feelings for Carly (Cameron Diaz).

The film was a box office success and failed to impress critics, but according to Kinney, the scene was a blast, he left the film with a new appreciation for the talent of the actors. costar. “Working with Leslie Mann is like a master class in comedy,” Kinney told Glamor in 2014. “It’s hard to keep things around her.”
