Why Chenford’s Chemistry Could Be the Secret Sauce for ‘The Rookie’ Season 8!

The Rookie Season 7 has ended its run and in setting up its eighth season, big villains like Monica Stevenson (Bridget Regan) and Oscar Hutchinson (Matthew Glave) were released. While that poses significant threats on various levels to the LAPD officers at Mid-Wilshire, some audience members would be more concerned with the state of the relationship between Lucy Chen (Melissa O’Neil) and Tim Bradford (Eric Winter). While the pair had slowly worked their way back to each other over the course of the season, Chenford ended the season still not officially a couple. Despite Tim’s heartfelt speech at the end, that relationship still hangs in the balance as Lucy heard none of it, being fast asleep. So, what does Season 8 hold for the couple?

Tim broke up with Lucy in the Season 6 finale and, given the progress the couple had made all season, some fans expecting a reconciliation and the pair getting back together in the Season 7 finale. Showrunner Alexi Hawley was asked by ScreenRant why the decision was made to end where it did. Hawley explains that while it might not be official, everyone knows the direction in which Chenford is currently traveling. His comments read:

“Ultimately, you leave that episode knowing where it’s going to go. I think you feel very positive about it. Obviously, Tim has done the work. Lucy and Tim still need to talk about it. One of the things that I think is clearly established during the course of our show is that healthy communication is not always their strong suit, but we’ve turned a corner. We’re heading in a good direction. It just made me laugh. Let’s put it that way. But we’re heading in a good direction.”

One Obstacle to Chenford’s Reunion Won’t Last Long in Season 8
