Why ‘Bridgerton’ Fans Think Benedict’s Love Story Will Be the Focus of Season 4
As Bridgerton prepares to follow Colin and Penelope’s romance in season 3, some fans are already thinking about the next love story.
Netflix released a new batch of season 3 stills on Monday, April 15, seemingly dropping clues about Benedict’s (Luke Thompson) future. In the promo footage, Benedict is seen playing cards, sitting at a social club, and chatting with a blonde woman at a ball.
“Benedict looks more like the main guy than the actual main guy of season 3 is crazy. You guys should keep Benedict in season 3,” one fan wrote via X. Another added of the mystery blonde, “Guys, I’m afraid this is Benedict’s Siena… They gave him one before the season like they did with Anthony lol.”
Which ‘Bridgerton’ couples ended up together in the books?
In Bridgerton season 1, Anthony (Jonathan Bailey) had a no-strings-attached relationship with opera singer Siena (Sabrina Bartlett) but didn’t want to make their relationship public due to social differences. He ended the season heartbroken after Siena moved away. When Bridgerton returns for season 2, Anthony plans to marry and find his Viscountess Kate Sharma (Simone Ashley).
Benedict also had quite a few love interests throughout the first two seasons, including a brief fling with couturier Madame Genevieve Delacroix (Kathryn Drysdale). Some social media users theorized that Delacroix and the unidentified blonde could be Benedict’s last fling before he seriously searches for true love.
Other fans noticed that the promotional footage featured several shots of Cressida Cowper (Jessica Madsen) and her family.
“So much Cowper family stuff. SOPHIE BECKETT IS COMING SOON,” a third X user wrote.
Sophie Beckett is Benedict’s love interest in An Offer From a Gentleman, the third book in Julia Quinn’s best-selling Regency romance series. The book is inspired by Cinderella, with Benedict and Sophie meeting at his family’s masquerade ball. Fans have theorized that Lady Cowper and Cressida Cowper are Sophie’s stepmother and stepsister.
‘Bridgerton’ Season 3 Clip Shows Anthony and Kate Falling in Love Like Never Before Sophie has yet to be cast in the Netflix series, although Benedict may be ready to meet The One and settle down soon.
“Well, my character is always trying to better himself,” Thompson, 35, revealed to Deadline at the UK’s Olivier Awards on Sunday, April 14. “I feel like all I can say without being caught by the powers that be is that his struggle is coming to a head a little bit, maybe.”
Fans have speculated that Thompson’s comments about his character’s journey “coming to a head” could be a hint that Benedict is ready to be treated by the leading man and meet his future bride.
‘Bridgerton’ Cast: What Rege-Jean, Phoebe, and More Look Like in Real Life “‘Not caught’. That’s the second time [Luke] has said that word,” another social media user wrote on Sunday. “Remember which book had someone caught? Yeah. He’s next.” (In An Offer From a Gentleman, Benedict rescues Sophie from prison after she’s framed for theft by her half-siblings.) An Offer From a Gentleman takes place a decade before Romancing Mister Bridgerton, which inspired Colin (Luke Newton) and Penelope’s (Nicola Coughlan) love story in season 3. Executive producer Shonda Rhimes has previously made it clear that the show will not follow the eight books in order.
The first half of Bridgerton season 3 will debut on Netflix on Thursday, May 16. The remaining episodes will debut on Thursday, June 13.
