Who will replace Teddi in season 2 of Tracker, and why might this replacement be better for Colter?

The Tracker season 2 premiere wasted no time in officially naming Teddi Bruin’s replacement — Reenie. After just one season, Robert Weigert’s time on the most-watched show of the 2023-2024 television cycle has come to an end, as she was announced to be leaving the show before its second year. No official reason was given for her surprise departure from the project, and the actor has not commented on it either. While it’s sad to lose an original character member from the start, Tracker season 2 is still going ahead, with Justin Hartley’s reward taking on a new case in the first season.

In the Tracker season 2 premiere, “Out in the Past,” Colter finds himself a missing man who ends up getting tangled up in a much more complicated cast involving the mafia. The outing also introduces a new season-long mystery, about an unsolved case that has haunted Hartley’s bounty for a decade. While Colter works alone on the ground, he’s always in touch with his remote team, which includes Teddi and Velma as his part-time handlers and parents. Instead of perpetuating the mystery, however, Tracker season 2 explains Teddi’s absence in the future while also setting up his replacement.4 As is typical in every episode, Colter reaches out to his remote team for support. However, talking to Velma feels a little different. Instead of being at home with Teddi in the background, she’s in the new office space of Reenie’s law firm. The pair’s partnership was teased in Tracker season 1, but details about it have been kept under wraps. However, given Teddi’s departure, the CBS procedural could easily set them up for a more long-term partnership in the future. This essentially makes Reenie Teddi’s replacement in Tracker season 2. Obviously, Velma’s dynamic with Reenie will be different than her relationship with Teddi. However, given their roles in the overall premise of Tracker and Colter’s operation, the new team could still function in the same way. Unfortunately, Tracker season 2 left the door open for Teddi’s eventual return, but given Weigert’s departure, that’s unlikely. Colter’s Tracker team is small but effective. Each member has their own agenda, so losing someone like Teddi could have a domino effect on how they handle their cases. Add to that the challenges of Velma’s inevitable separation from his wife. Although Tracker tries to create the illusion that they can still reunite, it is not possible. Delaying the inevitable only makes things worse for everyone, especially Velma. Sadly, Reenie steps in and becomes an official member of Colter’s operation that can actually make things better.

As seen in the Tracker season 2 premiere, Reenie goes ahead and arranges for the grieving family to be victimized by the mafia.

Reenie is a lawyer, so she easily handles the legal issues in Colter’s cases. However, beyond that, she is also trustworthy and skillful. As seen in the Tracker season 2 opener, Reenie goes ahead and arranges for the grieving family to be victimized by the mafia. She does all of this without even asking Colter, which takes a huge burden off his shoulders. Moving forward, accurately predicting what he’ll need in any given situation will help the rewarder be much more effective in his actual work. Teddi is great, but she’s not involved in this way.

It’s too early to tell what the future holds for Reenie and Velma’s partnership. In the Tracker season 2 opener, they were optimistic about the future and seemed to be on good terms. Even Bobby was excited about their legal partnership. As long as they keep this dynamic going, Colter’s work will continue to be effective in his work. Aside from the impact it has on Hartley’s hero, this is also great news for those who love Reenie. Establishing a clear relationship with Velma means she can have a more consistent presence in Tracker season 2 and beyond.

Having more prominence in Tracker allows the CBS procedural to explore more about the character. While the show’s shortened first season focused on Colter and the Shaw family mystery, its longer second season gives the show more time to tackle personal stories for his team, and now, that includes Reenie. So far, there’s been little to no information about her background and history. Perhaps Tracker season 2 could also address a possible romance between Reenie and Colter.
